From a press release:
In 1991, Dr. Gail Kettlewell, Provost of Northern Virginia Community College, had a vision for a new orchestra in Manassas and Prince William County. This orchestra, originally called the NOVA-Manassas Community Orchestra, began performing at Grace United Methodist Church in 1992. Over the years the orchestra has grown in both size and stature. In 2010, the ensemble moved into its new home in the Hylton Performing Arts Center, and was renamed the Manassas Symphony Orchestra in 2011.
In 2015, the MSO, under the direction of Music Director James Villani, was recognized as the winner of The American Prize for Orchestra Performance, Community Orchestra Division, and is now recognized as among the best volunteer orchestras in the country. To celebrate its 25 years of service to the community, the 2017-2018 Subscription Concert Season will feature some of the favorite pieces and soloists from past concerts, as well as pieces that they have not played before.
The MSO kicks off its Silver Anniversary Season on Saturday, October 28, 2017, 7:30PM with Silver Celebration featuring the return of fellow American Prize-winning piano soloist Anthony Michael Cornet performing American composer Edward MacDowell’s distinctive Piano Concerto No. 2. Mr. Cornet last performed with the MSO in 2015. The concert concludes with Ludwig van Beethoven’s blissful Symphony No. 7 which was previously performed by the MSO way back in 2003. Read More
MANASSAS — The Prince William County Planning Commission will not hear the Kine Property case on Wednesday as originally scheduled.
The proposed development would bring 400 new homes on 100 acres of land at the intersection of Prince William Parkway and Liberia Avenue just outside Manassas.
Those who were going to attend the 7:30 p.m. Oct. 4 Planning Commission meeting, or will view its upcoming agenda will not that the Kline development remains on the agenda.
From Prince William County Scott Meyer:
The Applicant requested deferral, just before we were about to dispatch our reports for 10/4 Planning Commission.
However, since the 10/4 PC public hearing has already been advertised, upon our e-portal/scheduled, and posted with public hearing signs, the Planning Commission still needs to officially take action on the deferral request at the 10/4 meeting. Although we do not know the actual timeframe for when it would go back to PC, it may possibly be as early as November 15th. But, we do not know at this time… It all depends on how it is deferred — to date uncertain or date certain.
We are in discussion with the applicant and looking at alternative layouts.
We’ve called the applicant Stanley Martin Homes, left a message and requested a comment. We’ll post here once we receive it.
MANASSAS — Representatives from People, Inc. is in talks with Manassas officials to build 31 new low-income homes.
The new homes would sit on 1.5 acres of land at 9511 Prince William Street, near Downtown Manassas. The land is the current home of an American Legion post.
If the new homes are built, People, Inc. wants them to go to veterans.
“We would like to give a leasing preference to veterans, but the
exact mechanism of how that work has not been decided yet,” said Bryan Ailey, Multi-Family Development Coordinator at People, Inc.
The project is in a conceptual stage, Ailey stresses.
The 31 homes are described as multi-family apartments. A yet-to-be completed market study will give the non-profit a better idea of the housing needs of low-income veterans in the Manassas area, he said. Read More

From an email:
“I am unable to attend the candidate forum hosted by the PW Committee of 100 on October 6, because I will be at First Friday in Manassas that evening. First Friday is a great event and tradition where community members come together to support local businesses and spend time in our city’s historic area. As a working father of two and a small business owner myself, I understand how difficult it can be to find time on a Friday night to go to a debate. That is why I will instead be at a free community event open to all, where I can meet with constituents and talk with them one-on-one about the issues they care about. I’d encourage anyone in our community to come out to this great event, and I look forward to meeting residents where it works best for them.” -Jackson H. Miller, Virginia House of Delegates, 50th District
His opponent Democrat Lee Carter posted this to his Facebook page:
And told us:
“I’m happy to respond to any of Miller’s comments, but my other public comments on the debate issue speak for themselves.”
