Supervisor Candidates Named

Stafford, Va. – Those in politics past and present are interested in being appointed the new Stafford Garrisonville District Supervisor.

Four people have tossed their name into the hat to be appointed supervisor, replacing Del. -Elect Mark Dudenhefer (R—Stafford, Woodbridge) who had served on the Board since 2006 and as Chairman since 2010.

The sitting Board is expected this month to appoint a temporary replacement for Dudenhefer, who was elected to the House of Delegates in November. The General Assembly convenes Jan. 11.

A general election to find a permanent supervisor for the Garrisonville seat will be held later this year.

Of those names in the hat, Stafford County School Board member Ty Schieber is completing the second four-year term as the Garrisonville District School Board representative, but now has his eyes on the Garrisonville seat.

“I have championed budget transparency, ensuring optimal application of resources in resource constrained times, and improving trust and working relationships between the School Board and the Board of Supervisors,” stated Schieber in a letter to Stafford’s Office of the County Administrator, which has accepted letters from interested applicants.

Schieber has lived in Stafford County for 18 years with 14 years serving as a U.S. Marine. Schieber is also a business owner.

Schieber will to contend with Gary Pash, former Garrisonville District Board Representative who served between 2002 and 2005, and Board Chairman during 2005. Dudenhefer beat Pash, a Democrat, in 2005 and went on to replace him on the Board.

A retired Naval Officer, Pash has over 18 years experience in the defense industry with a top secret clearance, according to submitted documents. Pash says, if appointed, he will focus on projects that would improve traffic and pedestrian safety in North Stafford, but declined to give specifics on which roads or areas that need improvements.

If not appointed, Pash said he will run in a general election to once again become the Garrisonville District Board Representative.

William Dawn is also interested in the job, living with his wife, Suzanne, for 17 years in Stafford County. Since 2001, he has lead Dawn Financial Services in association with New York Life specializing in services for individuals and small businesses, according to a resume submitted to county officials.

“My goal as a Stafford County Board of Supervisors member is [to] use the leadership and team working skills that I’ve developed with these community groups to help the county continue its leadership position through the challenges facing ours and other communities throughout the United States,” stated Dawn in a letter.

He’s also worked with the Stafford Rotary Club, United Way, and St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, according to submitted documents.

Finally, Thomas George Nutton is interested in the job. According to documents, he’s spent 33 years at the U.S. Postal Service, seven years at NASA, and four years in the Air Force.

He’s active in Triangle Baptist Church, has grandchildren, and spends time with family and in his garden, according to documents.

The appointee will serve in a temporary basis until residents in the Garrisonville District go to the polls to vote a permanent replacement, who will serve through 2013. A new chairman will be appointed by members of the sitting Board.

There has been talk about the Stafford Board adopting an At-large Chairman, but it would require approval of the General Assembly.
