Elbe J. d’Oliveira Jr. (Age 83)

Elbe J. d’Oliveira Jr., 83, of Southington, CT and formerly of Woodbridge, VA, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, November 19, 2023. Elbe was the loving husband of Sheila M. (Lefebvre) d’Oliveira for 56 years. Elbe was born on August 8, 1940 in New Bedford, MA to the late Elbe Sr. and Helen (Krakowiak) d’Oliveira and graduated from New Bedford High School, Class of 1958.

He proudly served in the U.S. Air Force Reserve. Elbe worked for the U.S. Department of Defense for over 30 years, retiring in 1997 as a Chief Information Officer. After his retirement, he owned and operated his own business, Systronics, LC, specializing in human resources information systems consulting. Elbe dedicated his life to serving his country and community.

He was a longtime member of the American Legion Post 0364 in Woodbridge, VA. He was a dedicated member of the Rotary Club of Southington and a former member and Past President of the Lake Ridge Rotary Club in Woodbridge, VA.

Elbe taught computer literacy classes at the Calendar House and enjoyed golfing. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his cherished grandchildren. In addition to his wife Sheila, Elbe is survived by their 2 children; daughter, Amy d’Oliveira of New York City and son, Elbe J. d’Oliveira III and wife Patricia of Wallingford as well as his 2 grandchildren, Jace and Campbell. In lieu of flowers, donations in Elbe’s memory may be made to DAV- Disabled American Veterans, P.O. Box 14301, Cincinnati, OH 45250-0301 (DAV.org).

A memorial service with military honors will be celebrated at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, November 28, 2023 at the Plantsville Funeral Home, 975 S. Main St., Plantsville. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family. Calling hours will be held before the service from 1 – 3p.m. at the funeral home. Potomac Senior High School in Woodbridge

Prince William police: "Possession of a Firearm on School Grounds – On November 18 at 5:32PM, officers assigned to an off-duty security detail for a non-school related football game on the grounds of Potomac High School, 3401 Panther Pride Dr. in Dumfries (22026), were notified of a man in possession of firearm. The investigation revealed while event security personnel were checking bags at the entrance of the football stadium, they located a firearm in the bag of a man, identified as the accused, and refused to let him enter the stadium area."

Prince William Police Department: Fraud Investigation – “On November 16 at 1:51 p.m., officers responded to investigate a scam that was reported to have occurred to a resident located in the 16000 block of Fairway Drive in Dumfries earlier that morning around 9:30 a.m.”

“The investigation revealed the victim, a 65-year-old woman, gave a large amount of money under the false pretenses of helping a family member who was allegedly involved in a vehicle crash. The victim reportedly received a phone call and spoke to different individuals who claimed to be the family member involved in the crash, a police officer, and a public defender.”

“The victim was then coerced into putting the money inside a box which was then given to an unknown person who was later determined to be a ride-share driver believed to be uninvolved in the scheme. Law enforcement warns residents not to provide personal information or money to individuals claiming to be the police or affiliated with the court system. Always contact loved ones directly through known means if you are concerned about their wellbeing. Additional information on similar scams is available online.”

Armed Robbery *ARREST – On November 20, the suspect sought in connection to the robbery that was reported to have occurred at the Super 8 located at 17416 Fraley Boulevard in Dumfries on November 5, was arrested. The accused, identified as Bryce Laron HENRY, was located and taken into custody in Fairfax County. Arrested on November 20: [No Photo Available] Bryce Laron HENRY, 24, of 5794 Gilesburg Drive in Manassas. Charged with robbery, use of a firearm in commission of a felony, abduction, and domestic assault & battery. Court Date: Pending | Bond: Unavailable.”

Armed Robbery [Previously Released] – On November 10 at 9:02 p.m., officers responded to investigate a robbery that was reported to have occurred at the Super 8 located at 17416 Fraley Boulevard  in Dumfries on November 5. The investigation revealed the victim, a 33-year-old woman, and an acquaintance, identified as the accused, were involved in a verbal altercation that escalated. During the encounter, the accused struck the victim multiple times and physically prevented her from leaving their room. At one point during the encounter, the accused brandished a firearm and demanded the victim’s money before leaving the room. Minor injuries were reported. No shots were fired. Following the investigation, officers obtained arrest warrants for the accused, identified as Bryce Laron HENRY. Attempts to locate the accused have been unsuccessful.”

 

Tamiko RIVERA

Strangulation | Domestic Related – On November 20 at 1:32 a.m., officers responded to a residence located in the 12900 block of Kingswell Drive in Woodbridge to investigate a domestic dispute. The investigation revealed the victim, a 39-year-old woman, and a family member, identified as the accused, were involved in a verbal altercation that escalated. During the encounter, the accused grabbed the victim and then grabbed her neck. Eventually the parties separated, and the accused fled prior to police arriving at the residence. While checking the area, officers located the accused nearby and took him into custody without incident. The victim reported minor injuries. Following the investigation, the accused, identified as Tamiko RIVERA, was arrested. Arrested on November 20: Tamiko RIVERA, 36, of the 12900 block of Kingswell Drive in Woodbridge. Charged with strangulation and domestic assault & battery. Court Date: Pending | Bond: Held WITHOUT Bond.”

Marine Corps Marathon Organization: “Jonathan Ladson of Woodbridge, age 32, defended his championship as the Turkey Trot overall winner on Saturday, November 18. He finished first of 923 runners in this morning’s Turkey Trot 10K, presented by Dick’s Sporting Goods and Tour Stafford, aboard Marine Corps Base Quantico.”

“Ladson crossed the finish line first with a time of 33:31, besting last year’s time by 27 seconds. His inspiration came from his daughter, who overcame a health scare in September which almost took her life.”

“About another 200 participants took on the Turkey Trot Mile, which was open to all ages. Unofficial results are available online.”

“All participants received a unique Thanksgiving Turkey Trot shirt and medal. Top finishers and age-award winners received frozen Thanksgiving turkeys or pies provided by Wegmans.”

“The Turkey Trot 10K and Mile is part of the MCM Event Series hosted by the Marine Corps Marathon Organization. The MCM Event Series features a variety of distances and fun challenges on or near Marine Corps Base Quantico.”

3:30 p.m. Update from Virginia State Police: “At 5:08 a.m. Sunday (Nov. 19, 2023), Virginia State Police responded to a two-vehicle crash in Prince William County. A tractor-trailer and a sedan collided in the southbound lanes of I-95 at the 156 mile marker. The tractor-trailer struck the pillar supporting the flyover ramp, which caused the trailer to rip open and lose its contents.”

“While the driver of the sedan was being treated by EMS at the scene, he left the ambulance and fled the scene on foot. State police are following up on several leads regarding his location.”

“The driver of the tractor-trailer, an adult male, died at the scene. State police is still in the process of notifying his next of kin.”

“The Virginia State Police Fairfax Division Crash Reconstruction Team is assisting with the ongoing crash investigation.”

Original post: A tractor-trailer crash snarled traffic on Interstate 95 today, Sunday, November 19, 2023.

The crash occurred on I-95 South, near Prince William Parkway, about 5 a.m. As of noon, police were on the scene working to investigate the crash. There’s no word yet on injuries.

Traffic on I-95 south is snarled seven miles, and there have been several reports of disabled vehicles in the hours since the crash occurred.

Transurban, operators of the E-ZPass Express Lanes, announced a temporary closure of the toll lanes between Fredericksburg and Opitz Boulevard, near the crash, while crews work to clean up the crash.

Prince William Police Department: Shooting into a Residential Dwelling – On November 14 at 11:54 p.m., officers responded to a residence located in the 14300 block of Hope Street in Woodbridge to investigate a shots fired call. The investigation revealed multiple shots were fired which struck the residence and the homeowner’s unoccupied vehicle. Officers located shell casings in the roadway. No injuries or additional property damage were reported.”

Residential Burglary – On November 14 at 5:11 p.m., officers responded to the Elevations One Apartments located in the 14300 block of Bellona Road in Woodbridge to investigate a burglary. The investigation revealed an unknown man entered the unsecured front door of an apartment and took a laptop before leaving. The suspect was described as a black male wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, green pants, and carrying a black/white backpack.”

Strangulation | Domestic Related – On November 14 at 11:07 a.m., officers responded to investigate a domestic dispute that was reported to have occurred at the Woodbridge Station Apartments located in the 13600 block of Wasp Way in Woodbridge earlier that morning. The investigation revealed the victim, a 39-year-old woman, and an acquaintance, identified as the accused, were involved in a verbal altercation that escalated. During the encounter, the accused forcibly prevented the victim from making contact with the police and, at one point later in the day, grabbed the victim’s neck. The accused also destroyed property and clothing within the apartment before taking the victim’s phone and leaving. Minor injuries were reported. Following the investigation, the accused, identified as Elijah Nickey RANKIN, was arrested. Arrested on November 14: Elijah Nickey RANKIN, 30, of the 13600 block of Wasp Way in Woodbridge. Charged with abduction, strangulation, felony destruction of property, misdemeanor destruction of property, petit larceny, and domestic assault & battery. Court Date: Pending | Bond: Unavailable.”

Reckless Handling of a Firearm – On November 13 at 10:59 p.m., officers responded to a residence located in the 4600 block of Telfair Cout in Woodbridge to investigate a shots fired call. The investigation revealed a resident of the home, identified as the accused, was handling his handgun when a round was fired which struck the accused in the leg before continuing through the floor and into the kitchen area of the home. The accused was transported to an area hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. The home was occupied with other residents at the time. No additional injuries or additional property damage were reported. Following the investigation, the accused, identified as Thomas Jamal BRADSHAW, was charged. Charged on July 24: [No photo available] Christopher Michael MOORE, 29, of 10178 Portsmouth Road, #6, in Manassas. Charged with reckless handling of a firearm. Attempted Assault & Battery on a Law Enforcement Officer [LEO] – On November 14 at 2:25 p.m., officers in the area of Irongate Way and Community Drive in Manassas attempted to stop an individual believed to be trespassing in the community. During the encounter, the individual, later identified as the accused, initially refused to cooperate before providing officers with false identifying information. At one point, the accused attempted to flee from the officers before attempting to strike the officers when he was eventually detained. Following the investigation, officers obtained petitions for the accused, identified as a 17-year-old male juvenile, who was released to a family member. On November 15, after consultation with Juvenile Court Services, the case resulted in a formal action and will be handled through the court process at a later date. Charged on November 14: [Juvenile] A 17-year-old male juvenile of Manassas. Charged with attempted assault on LEO, false identity to LEO, and trespassing. Court Date: Pending | Status: Charged/Petitions Obtained.”
