- Saturday, November 30: Dale City, Dumfries, Independent Hill, Lake Ridge, and Nokesville Libraries will be closed for the holiday weekend.

Prince William County's personal property and second-half real estate taxes for 2024 are due by December 5, 2024, with various payment options available, including online, phone, mail, and in-person at designated locations. Late payments will incur a 10% penalty and monthly interest, and residents with questions or missing tax bills are advised to contact the Taxpayer Services Office.

The Virginia Department of Education has selected Greendale Elementary School in Washington County and Belmont Elementary School in Prince William County as Virginia’s two 2024 ESEA Distinguished Schools.
Recognized for exceptional student performance for two consecutive years, Washington County’s Greendale Elementary School made noteworthy gains in reading and science SOL scores, improving by nine and fourteen points respectively in the last year. The school implemented key literacy initiatives, such as targeted reading interventions, an open library, and ongoing professional development for school staff. The school also focused on data driven instruction such as formative and summative assessments to guide differentiation; explicit teaching with clear demonstrations and guided practice; tailored instruction for personalized interventions; and small group instruction and remediation.

An 18-year-old Manassas Park man was arrested after an assault and robbery at gunpoint that took place late last week.
On November 14th at approximately 12:56 a.m. Deputy R.A. Kehoe responded to Shasta Place for a previously occurred robbery. It was advised a male and female were robbed at gunpoint and the male victim had to be taken to the hospital due to his injuries during the incident. Deputy Kehoe would make contact with the victims to discover what occurred.

Rape Investigation *ARREST – On November 14, the suspect, identified as Kelvin Johnson ALVARADO-AGUILAR, who was sought in connection to the sexual assault that was reported to have occurred at a residence located in the Woodbridge (22191) area of Prince William County in 2023, turned himself into police.Arrested on November 14: Kelvin Johnson ALVARADO-AGUILAR, 36, of the 1300 block of Ironwood St. in Woodbridge Charged with rape and abduction Court Date: Pending | Bond: Held WITHOUT Bond
Rape Investigation [Previously Released] – On October 17, 2024, detectives obtained charges in an ongoing investigation regarding a sexual assault that was reported to have occurred at a residence located in the Woodbridge (22191) area of Prince William County in 2023. The investigation revealed the adult female victim was sexually assaulted by an acquaintance, identified as the accused. While investigating the incident, detectives learned the accused had held the victim against her will in an altercation in 2022. The victim eventually reported the incidents prompting the police investigation. Following the investigation, detectives obtained arrest warrants for the accused, identified as Kelvin Johnson ALVARADO-AGUILAR. Attempts to locate the accused have been unsuccessful.

Fredericksburg Police are investigating a pedestrian accident that occurred on Plank Road on November 16, resulting in the death of a 26-year-old man. The driver of the truck involved remained at the scene, and no signs of impairment were found.

Fredericksburg Police are currently investigating a pedestrian accident that took place early [yesterday] morning at 6:20 a.m. on the eastbound lanes of Plank Road.
The victim, Joe Anthony Palacios, a 26-year-old man with no permanent address, was walking eastbound in the travel lane of the 2800 block of Plank Road when he was struck by a truck. He sustained severe injuries and was transported to the nearest hospital for emergency care. Unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries at 10:43 a.m. [yesterday] morning.
The driver remained at the scene of the incident and cooperated during the preliminary investigation. There were no indicators of impairment and the driver did not sustain any injuries in the crash.
The medical examiner’s office has begun its investigation. The police department’s traffic reconstruction team is also investigating. Further updates will be released at a later date.
The next of kin has been notified, and we extend our deepest condolences to his family during this difficult time.
Stafford County has installed temporary fencing at the Stafford Courthouse for routine maintenance, including painting and window repairs, as part of responsible stewardship of the historic structure. The courthouse, designated as a Historic Resource Overlay District, is subject to protective zoning regulations, and any major exterior changes require approval from the Stafford County Architectural Review Board. The courthouse refresh comes as Stafford Supervisors debate spending $209 million on a new courthouse
