“OmniRide has added extended late evening Express service from D.C. to Prince William County. Three late evening trips will originate in DC on the Gainesville/L’Enfant Plaza/Navy Yard (612) route, and they will arrive at the Pentagon at 7pm, 8pm, and 9pm. Riders bound for eastern Prince William can transfer to buses to the Horner Road, Telegraph Road, 234 and OmniRide Commuter Lots. 612 buses will continue to the Balls Ford, University and Heathcote Commuter Lots.”

Stafford County sheriff: “A Woodbridge man was jailed for numerous offenses after a traffic stop in South Stafford yesterday afternoon. On August 12th at 7:33 p.m. Sergeant B.U. Demirci observed a red Ford Taurus being operated with stolen license plates. Deputy B.M. Taylor responded to assist and a high-risk traffic stop was conducted near the intersection of White Oak Road and Town and Country Drive.”

“The 50-year-old driver had a strong odor of alcoholic beverage on his breath and was arrested. He was ultimately charged with possession of stolen property, DUI second offense in ten years, driving revoked, driving after forfeiture of license, refusal, obstruction of justice, improper display of license plates and open title on a vehicle. [Jihad Saboor, of Woodbridge] was held at the Rappahannock Regional Jail on a $3,000 bond.”

95 Express Lanes Fredericksburg Extension (Fred Ex): “The 10-mile mainline between Garrisonville Road and Route 17 is anticipated to open southbound at 10 p.m. on Thursday, August 17. The Lanes will be ready for northbound traffic the following morning, August 18, per normal summer reversal schedule. Remaining access points along the project corridor are anticipated to open late 2023.”

The extension runs from Garrisonville Road (Route 610) in North Stafford to Route 17 (Warrenton Road) near Fredericksburg. At the Stafford County Courthouse, Gov. Glen Youngkin will open the new lanes during a ceremony on Wednesday, August 16, 2023.

95 Express Lanes: The 95 Express Lanes Fredericksburg Extension is expected to open southbound at 10 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 17. Southbound Express Lanes travelers will be able to drive an additional 10 miles south in the new facility to the Route 17 area from its existing terminus point south of exit 143 (Garrisonville). Exiting travelers can enter local I-95 southbound travel lanes near the Rappahannock River to access the Route 17 or Route 3 interchanges or continue in the I-95 southbound through travel lanes toward Spotsylvania or Richmond.

• Northbound I-95 through travelers approaching from the Rappahannock River area will be able to enter Express Lanes using a left ramp entrance near the Route 17 interchange starting Friday, Aug. 18.

• Additional new access points to and from the Express Lanes near Marine Corps Base Quantico and Courthouse Road will open in late 2023. Virginia State Police: “At 1:51 p.m. Wednesday (Aug. 9), Virginia State Police responded to a single-vehicle crash in Stafford County. A Mercedes sedan was traveling south on I-95 when it ran off the right side of the interstate near the 135-mile marker. The vehicle struck the guardrail actuator and overturned.”

“Two other motorists pulled off to the shoulder to render aid to the driver of the crashed vehicle. As they walked up to the crashed Mercedes, its driver, Kevin J. Wood, 29, of Fredericksburg, Va., exited the vehicle and assaulted them.”

“Wood was transported to Mary Washington Hospital and is still being treated for non-life-threatening injuries. The two motorists, both adult males, were also transported to Mary Washington Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.”

“State police arrested Wood on one count of driving under the influence (DUI, 3rd offense within 5-10 years), one count of attempted murder, one count of strangulation, and one count of malicious wounding. The crash and assaults remain under investigation.”

“The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) and contractor crews are replacing and installing approximately 100 signs and pavement safety messages over approximately 21 miles.”

“Transverse rumble strips were placed across the Route 218 travel lanes earlier this month in the area where flashing beacon signs will be placed in the coming weeks between Vertical Ridge Road and Ford Lane. The flashing beacon signs will warn drivers of an upcoming curve. A ‘Slow’ symbol was applied to the pavement in this area as well to warn of the upcoming curve.”

“Various safety signage will be replaced and installed, which will consist of curve warning signs and curve chevron signs to reduce the risk of crashes and improve safety. The new signage will provide additional warning and delineation at curves.”

“Crews will be working on the shoulder, but may have a flagging operation in some areas. Temporary portable rumble strips will be deployed to warn drivers to slow down as they approach a mobile work zone.”

“Weather permitting, crews will be working from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday. The safety improvements are expected to be complete by late November 2023. Message boards will be posted in advance to notify motorists about the upcoming project.”

“The project’s contractors are CES Consulting, LLC; Dominion Energy; and Northern Neck Electric Cooperative. The project cost is approximately $300,000, and it is being federally funded by the Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP).”
