Virginia Department of Transportation: “Resurfacing will begin on Monday, Sept. 25, at the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) Park and Ride commuter lot in Falmouth on Route 17 in Stafford County.”

“The lot will be closed for 15 consecutive days starting Sept. 25, weather permitting. This work is part of a $2.9 million maintenance project underway to resurface five Park and Ride lots in the Fredericksburg region and provide a smoother travel surface with fresh lane markings.”

“Resurfacing has finished in the Carmel Church lot in Caroline County and the Old Salem Church Road lot in Spotsylvania County. The lots are now open.”

“Work continues in the Mine Road lot in Stafford County, which remains closed. Work continues in lots B, C, and D in the Gordon Road lot in Spotsylvania County and lot A remains open for parking. View the Gordon Road lot map here.”

“Message boards are being posted in the affected lots to notify users ahead of time. Updated schedule information will also be posted online on the project page. Alternate commuter parking locations can be found using VDOT’s interactive Park and Ride location map. The project contractor is Superior Paving.”

Additional Park and Ride Improvements: A separate $350,000 project is making spot concrete repairs in Fredericksburg area Park and Ride lots to damaged curbs and sidewalk panels. All ramps will also be made accessible.”

  • Planning efforts are also underway to identify and replace bus shelters and bicycle racks as needed in area Park and Ride lots.

Virginia Department of Transportation: “Overnight I-95 northbound ramp closures are scheduled for several evenings next week at exit 133 (Falmouth/Warrenton) in Stafford County.”

“Closures are needed after midnight for construction activities on two projects, the I-95 Northbound Rappahannock River Crossing and the 95 Express Lanes Fredericksburg Extension.”

“During the ramp closures, northbound I-95 motorists are advised to use the most convenient alternate interchange at exit 130 (Route 3) in Fredericksburg or exit 136 (Centreport Parkway) and Route 1 to reach their destination.”

I-95 Northbound Off-Ramp: The off-ramp from I-95 northbound to Route 17 and Route 17 Business (Warrenton Road) at exit 133 will close overnight from midnight – 3 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 19, through Friday, Sept. 22.”

Route 17 On-Ramp to I-95 Northbound: The on-ramp from Route 17 and Route 17 Business to I-95 northbound will be closed from midnight – 3 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 19, and Wednesday, Sept. 20.”

“Motorists should also stay alert for overnight lane closures on Route 17 and Route 17 Business near the I-95 interchange on the evening of Sunday, Sept. 17, through the morning of Friday, Sept. 22. Single lane closures are scheduled northbound between 7 p.m. – 6 a.m. and southbound between 8 p.m. – 7 a.m.”

Prince William County Police:Fatal Crash Investigation – On August 30 at 7:35 p.m., crash investigators responded to the area of Minnieville Road and Hedgewood Drive in Woodbridge (22193) to investigate a crash.”

“The investigation revealed the drivers of a 2011 BMW 535, and a 2014 Nissan 370 Z were traveling southbound on Minnieville Road at a high rate of speed when the driver of the Nissan attempted an aggressive maneuver to pass a pick-up truck. While attempting the maneuver, the driver of the Nissan lost control of the vehicle and struck the driver’s side area of the BMW.”

“The impact caused both vehicles to leave the roadway. The Nissan traveled a short distance off-road before impacting a telephone pole. The BMW also traveled a short distance before entering an embankment causing the vehicle to briefly become airborne and strike a tree. The driver of the BMW was not wearing a seatbelt and was pronounced deceased on scene. The driver of the Nissan was transported to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries.”

“No other occupants were in either vehicle and, no other vehicles were involved in the collision. Speed appears to be a factor for both vehicles. The investigation continues. Identified: The driver of the 2011 BMW 535 Series was identified as Juan Jose BONILLA BONILLA, 23, of Woodbridge. The driver of the 2014 Nissan 370 Z was identified as an 18-year-old man of Woodbridge.”

Prince William County: “The Woodbridge District North Route 1 Landscaping Enhancements project with trees, flowering bushes and ornamental grasses is finished. The project is in the median on Route 1 from Gordon Boulevard in Woodbridge to the Fairfax County line.”

“Residents, elected officials, county staff and Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) staff recently gathered at the intersection of Gordon Boulevard and Route 1 to celebrate the completion of the project.”

“The county’s beautification program, approved by the Prince William Board of County Supervisors in the Fiscal 2024 budget, will complete similar landscaping projects in each of the county’s magisterial districts.”

Virginia Department of Transportation: “To make the most of the Labor Day weekend and remaining summer travel days, the Virginia Department of Transportation will be suspending most highway work zones and lifting most lane closures on interstates and other major roads in Virginia from noon Friday, Sept. 1, until noon Tuesday, Sept. 5.”

“While lane closures will be lifted in most locations, motorists may encounter semi-permanent work zones that remain in place during this time. Check VDOT’s Weekly Lane Closures and Travel Advisories for the latest travel alerts in your area and around the state.”

“Additionally, VDOT offers several resources to help plan travel ahead of time. VDOT’s online, interactive travel trends map shows peak congestion periods anticipated on Virginia interstates during the upcoming Labor Day holiday period. While it cannot precisely predict when congestion will occur this year, it can help motorists avoid travel when roads have historically been busiest.”

  • Exit 140 (Courthouse Road) to Exit 143 (Aquia/Garrisonville) Β Monday?– Thursday, 9 p.m. – 4:30 a.m. Single lane closure. Construction for 95 Express Lanes Fredericksburg Extension at mile markers 140–142.

Stafford County: Route 1 Sunday – Thursday, 8 p.m. – 6 a.m. Single lane closures on Route 1 northbound and southbound between the bridge over Potomac Creek and Layhill Road. Crews will install pavement markings following recent paving.

  • Route 17 Sunday – Tuesday, 9 p.m. – 7 a.m. Single lane closures on Route 17 northbound and southbound in Stafford County for guardrail repair at multiple locations.
  • Wednesday – Friday, 8 p.m. – 7 a.m. Single lane closures near the I-95 interchange for work on overhead sign foundations. Single lane closures northbound between 7 p.m. – 6 a.m. and southbound between 8 p.m. – 7 a.m.
  • Route 610 (Garrisonville Road) Sunday – Friday, 8 p.m. – 7 a.m. Paving on Route 610 between Mine Road and Joshua Road. Travelers will encounter brief overnight delays and a temporary rough ride in milled areas. Westbound lane closures are permitted 9 p.m. – 7 a.m. Eastbound lane closures permitted 8 p.m. – 5 a.m.
  • Traffic Signal Maintenance Wednesday – Friday, 8 p.m. – 5 a.m. Mobile overnight lane closures at multiple traffic signals in Stafford County for routine traffic signal maintenance. Follow traffic control direction at scene. Locations include the intersections of Route 1 and Bells Hill Road/Hope Road, Deacon Road and Leeland Road, Mountain View Road and Choptank Road, and Staffordborough Boulevard and the Stafford Marketplace shopping center.

Stafford County and King George County: Route 218 (White Oak Road/Caledon Road) Monday – Friday, 7 a.m. – 3 p.m. Flagging crew will alternate one-way traffic on Route 218 (White Oak Road) between Route 604 (Belle Plains Road) and Route 206 (Dahlgren Road) in King George County for a safety improvement project. Spotsylvania County: Route 1 Monday – Thursday, 9 p.m. – 6 a.m. Alternating lane closures on Route 1 northbound and southbound for road construction between Market Street and Bakers Lane.

  • Route 208 (Courthouse Road) Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 7 p.m. and Monday – Friday, 8 p.m. – 6 a.m. Pavement marking work between Route 601 (Lawyers Road) and Route 691 (Black Rock Drive) with one-way, alternating traffic directed through the work zone by a flagging crew.
  • Route 600 (Herndon Road) Sunday – Friday, 5 p.m. – 6 a.m. and Monday – Friday, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. Pavement marking work between Brock Road and Orange Plank Road with one-way alternating traffic directed through the work zone by a flagging crew.
  • Route 610 (Brock Road) Sunday – Friday, 5 p.m. – 6 a.m. and Monday – Friday, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. Pavement marking work between Herndon Road and Route 3 with one-way, alternating traffic directed through the work zone by a flagging crew.
  • Route 711 (Southpoint Parkway) Monday – Thursday, 9 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Single lane closure on Southpoint Parkway between Route 1 southbound and Pacific Drive as part of a widening project.
  • Monday – Friday, 7:30 p.m. – 5 a.m. Single lane closure on Southpoint Parkway between Route 1 southbound and Pacific Drive for crane work. This lane closure is needed for only one evening this week.
  • Traffic Signal Maintenance Sunday – Wednesday, 8 p.m. – 5 a.m. Mobile overnight lane closures at multiple traffic signals in Spotsylvania County for routine traffic signal maintenance. Follow traffic control direction at scene. Intersections include Route 1 and Mine Road, Lafayette Boulevard and Olde Greenwich Drive, Market Street and Spotsylvania Avenue, Route 3 and Andora Drive, Leavells Road and Loriella Park entrance, Courthouse Road and Block House Road.
