Fire Marshal D.M. Pappas responded to an arson call at Rodney Thompson Middle School. Staff reported camera footage from 2/27 showing a student igniting personal items. The student was found with the lighter and faces criminal charges.

Sheetz, 10 Washington Square Plaza, 2/29, 5:59 p.m.
Deputy I.E. Baldi investigated a forgery report at Sheetz, where staff had a counterfeit bill used for gas payment by a male suspect.

On February 22, at 1:47 a.m., Deputy P.J. Leon of the Stafford County Sheriff's Office was engaged in speed enforcement duties along Garrisonville Road. During his patrol, Deputy Leon observed a pickup truck exceeding the speed limit, traveling at 55 mph in a 35 mph zone. Promptly, Deputy Leon initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle, pulling it over in a Wells Fargo bank parking lot at 131 Garrisonville Road.

In the early hours of Saturday, Feb. 17, 2024, the Stafford County Sheriff's Office demonstrated remarkable proficiency in aerial search and rescue operations, using a drone to locate a missing hiker in distress.
The ordeal began at 1:17 a.m. when deputies received a call regarding a 36-year-old male hiker who had gone missing in the Civil War Park on Mount Hope Church Road. The sheriff's office states that the hiker was separated from his companion and ill-equipped for the freezing temperatures.

Stafford County's Animal Shelter is facing a dire situation as it grapples with an unprecedented number of dogs in its care. Animal Captain Joe Bice revealed that the shelter has far exceeded its capacity.
"Last year, we adopted or transferred 583 dogs, with an average stay of 21 days in the shelter," stated Bice. "However, we've been over adoption capacity for most of 2023 and 2024."

The Stafford County Sheriff’s Office is seeking assistance from the public in locating a suspect involved in an incident that resulted in injuries to a deputy following a crash on Thursday morning.
On February 15 at 1:34 a.m., Sergeant J.T. Forman observed a Scion disregarding a red traffic signal at the intersection of Butler Road and Chatham Heights Road. Forman attempted a traffic stop, but the suspect failed to yield and initiated a pursuit, police said.

Assault at Bank of America
At the Bank of America, located at 1525 Stafford Market Place on February 14, 2024, at 2:17 p.m., deputies were dispatched following a disturbance report involving a weapon. The victim claimed to have been assaulted, strangled, and threatened with a weapon by her romantic partner. The suspect managed to flee the scene but was later apprehended by Deputy A.J. Layug at Circle K, 34 Prosperity Lane. A firearm was confiscated during the detention, and the suspect faced charges of assault and battery, strangulation, and carrying a concealed weapon. He was subsequently released on personal recognizance by the magistrate.
