The Potomac Library is well maintained with a roof that was replaced in 2013. In 2011, an enhanced garden was put in, but the building, which opened in 1975, is beyond its projected useful lifespan.
The Potomac Community Library also lacks sufficient meeting space for community events and has insufficient space for the public to access computers.
The children's area lacks small meeting spaces, and the bathroom is not compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act, or ADA.

Library late fines could be a thing of the past in Prince William County.
As the Board of County Supervisors deliberates over its proposed budget of more than $1.3 billion to take effect July 1, it can kill the fines that have served as a recourse method to get residents to return books and other materials to local libraries.
The county's Board of Library Trustees says it wants to eliminate the fines due to, in part, the pandemic. It penned a resolution to County Executive Christopher Martino that included this clause:

The countdown is on to the opening of Manassas City's first library branch.
The Manassas City Library is slated to open on Tuesday, February 2 and is located at the Wellington Station shopping center, at 10104 Dumfries Road, next to a Giant Food store. Since it opened in 1974, Central Library Branch, at 8061 Mathis Avenue, located just across the city line in Prince William County, has been the closest library to city residents.
The new 6,000-square foot library will be smaller than Central, but larger than what the county considers a traditional neighborhood library, examples of which can be found at the Tacketts Mill Shopping Center in Lake Ridge and the Triangle Shopping Center, next to the new Rosie's gaming parlor in Dumfries.
