Several armed robberies occurred recently in Prince William. On October 20, a 27-year-old man was assaulted and robbed in Gainesville, resulting in injuries and property loss. The day before, a 56-year-old man was threatened with a firearm at a Motel 6, and on October 18, two 17-year-old boys were approached by three armed suspects near Woodbridge.

The investigation revealed the victim, a 27-year-old man, was approached from behind by unknown individuals. During the encounter, the victim was struck with a bat and assaulted before being cut on the hand with a knife. The suspects took the victim’s property and left the area. The victim went to a nearby business and contacted the police. The victim was treated at an area hospital for non-life threatening injuries. A phone, clothing, and money were reported missing. The suspects were only described as a Hispanic males wearing dark-colored clothing.
Armed Robbery – On October 19 at 5:56AM, officers responded to the Motel 6 located at 17133 Dumfries Rd. [near] Dumfries (22025) to investigate a robbery. The investigation revealed the victim, a 56-year-old man, was assisting an unknown woman with a broken-down vehicle when he was approached by an unknown man. During the encounter, the man brandished a firearm and demanded the victim’s property before leaving the area with the woman. No injuries were reported. A phone and money were reported missing. The suspects were described as a medium build white male with a goatee and mustache and a medium build white female with long blond hair.
Armed Robbery – On October 18 at 1:58PM, officers responded to the area of Westridge Dr. near Westridge Pond Path [near] Woodbridge (22192) to investigate a robbery. The investigation revealed the victims, both 17- year-old male juveniles, were approached by three unknown men, possibly juveniles. During the encounter, the suspects brandished firearms and demanded the victim’s property. A brief altercation ensued before the suspects took the victim’s property and left in a black sedan. Minor injuries were reported by one of the victims. A phone, clothing, a backpack and keys were reported missing. The suspects were described as black males between 15-20 years old, wearing dark-colored clothing.

Following a 24-week course of training, the 16 police officers and sheriff’s deputy attended a graduation ceremony at the Hylton Performing Arts Center in Manassas to celebrate their achievements.
The course included training in all aspects of police work, including classes in firearms, use-of-force decision-making, driver training, legal training, patrol techniques and investigative work.

A suspect was arrested on October 15 for a strong-arm robbery that occurred on September 15 near Manassas. An additional suspect was arrested earlier, and both face charges related to the incident. In addition, on October 16, officers responded to a robbery at a Shell service station near Woodbridge, where an unknown man pushed an employee and stole money before fleeing.

Strong-Arm Robbery *SUSPECTS IDENTIFIED | ARREST [Previously Released] – On September 25, officers concluded the investigation into the robbery that was reported to have occurred in the 8300 block of Sudley Rd. [near] Manassas (20109) on September 15. While investigating the incident, officers identified both suspects involved in the robbery and obtained arrest warrants. On September 25, officers located and arrested one of the suspects, identified as Oscar Yovani GUEVARAARGUETA. The investigation continues as officers attempt to locate the second suspect, identified as Byron Daniel PINZON.
Strong-Arm Robbery [Previously Released] – On September 15 at 11:31AM, officers responded to the 8300 block of Sudley Rd. [near] Manassas (20109) to investigate a robbery. The investigation revealed the victim, a 38-year-old man, was approached by two unknown men near the dumpster area of a local business. During the encounter, one of the men grabbed the victim while the other man took the victim’s money before both suspects ran away. No injuries were reported.

Strong-Arm Robbery – On October 16 at 8:01PM, officers responded to the Shell service station located at 14325 Gideon Dr. [near] Woodbridge (22192) to investigate a robbery. The investigation revealed an unknown man walked behind the service counter where he pushed the employee and took an undisclosed amount of money before leaving the store. No injuries were reported. The suspect was described as a heavy-set Hispanic male.
On October 16, officers found two adults and two girls in a vehicle in Woodbridge, where suspected illegal drugs were accessible to the children. The adults were arrested and charged with child neglect and drug possession, while the children were treated at a hospital but were not injured.

Felony Child Neglect – On October 16 at 7:21PM, officers were in the 14300 block of Jeffries Rd. in Woodbridge (22191) when an occupied vehicle was located in the parking lot. Officers found the two accused and two girls, ages 7 and 9, in the vehicle with suspected illegal drugs within reach of the children. The children were treated at an area hospital for possible exposure to the drugs. The children were not injured. Following the investigation, the two accused, identified as Andrea Louise DELANEY and Joshua Alexander SCHULDT, were arrested.

[Photo by Nikko Tan via Pexels]The Prince William County Police Department is hosting a training for faith-based organizations on Tuesday from 1 to 5 p.m. in Manassas.
The training is open to all faith-based organizations in an effort to assist them in securing a safe worship environment. The event will be lecture-based and provide tools for organizations to keep worship spaces secure, as well as an introduction to the Worship Watch Program (WWP).
According to the county’s website, WWP is a proactive program that encourages houses of worship to become more involved in reducing the opportunity for crimes to occur on their premises. The program operates similarly to a community watch program.
The training session on Oct. 22 will also detail practical steps to enhance the physical safety of the worship space, why organized safety teams are important and how to respond confidently and comprehensively to potential threats.
Seating is limited, so registration is required. Each attendee must register individually on the event’s Eventbrite.

Aggravated Malicious Wounding *SUSPECT IDENTIFIED [Previously Released] – On September 10, detectives identified the suspect believed to be involved in the stabbing that was reported to have occurred in the 14500 block of Richmond Hwy. in Woodbridge (22191) on September 9. Further investigation revealed the victim and an acquaintance, identified as the accused, were involved in a verbal altercation that escalated when the accused struck, kicked, and then stabbed the victim before the parties separated. Following the investigation, detectives obtained arrest warrants for the accused, identified as Makahyla Lynn MUTZ. Attempts to locate the accused have been unsuccessful.
Stabbing Investigation [Previously Released] – On September 9 at 5:05AM, officers responded to the 14500 block of Richmond Hwy. in Woodbridge (22191) to investigate a stabbing. The investigation revealed the victim, a 34-year-old man, was involved in an altercation during which he was stabbed and struck. The victim was located by an employee of nearby business who contacted the police. The victim was treated at an area hospital for non-life threatening injuries. Officers and a police K-9 searched the area for the suspect(s) who were not located. No additional injuries were reported.
On October 8, 2024, a suspect turned himself in to police in connection with residential shootings that occurred on April 7, 2023, in Dale City. The individual faces multiple charges related to the incidents, which were linked to gang activity, and the investigation is ongoing as detectives seek additional suspects.

Shooting into Residential Dwellings *ARREST – While continuing the investigation into the residential shootings that were reported to have occurred on Kenmar Dr. and Lynhurst Dr. in [Dale City] on of [sic] April 7, 2023, detectives determined the shootings were connected. The accused was determined to also be a member of the criminal street gang the Crips and the shooting was gang related. Shooting into a Residential Dwelling [Previously Released] – On April 7 at 9:07PM, officers
responded to a residence located in the 13000 block of Kenmar Dr. in [Dale City] (22192) to
investigate a shots fired call. The investigation revealed a light-colored SUV was driving on Kenmar
Dr. when it stopped near the residence. Two individuals then exited the vehicle and fired multiple
rounds, striking the residence before getting back into the vehicle and fleeing the area. No injuries
or additional property damage were reported.
Shooting into a Residential Dwelling [Previously Released] – On April 7 at 9:26PM, officers
responded to a residence located in the 13700 block of Lynhurst Dr. in [Dale City] (22193) to
investigate a shots fired call. The investigation revealed multiple male suspects were walking in the
above area when they stopped and fired several rounds towards the residence. The suspects then
ran to a vehicle before fleeing the area. No injuries were reported. While investigating the incident,
officers located a residence and an unoccupied vehicle that were struck by gunfire. Shell casings
were also located on the sidewalk.

National Take Back Day is led by the United States Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), which established this day to address the drug overdose epidemic in the U.S. Thousands of people die each year in prescription opioid deaths; in 2022, the number of deaths was 14,716 according to the National Institute on Drug Abuse.
“DEA is committed to making our communities safer and healthier, and we can do this by reducing overdoses and overdose deaths,” the DEA’s website states. “While the community does its part to turn in unneeded medications and remove them from potential harm, we are doing our part to further reduce drug-related violence.”
The DEA hosts a take-back day every six months in April and October with thousands of law enforcement agencies participating each time. In April 2024, 335 tons — or 670,135 pounds — of drugs were collected nationwide. In Virginia, 17,425 pounds of prescription drugs were collected in April. Since the first take-back day in 2010, nearly 19 million pounds of drugs have been collected.

Police charged the driver of a 2009 Mack roll-off truck involved in a fatal crash on September 5 in Woodbridge. The crash occurred near Old Bridge Rd. and Occoquan Road, where 23-year-old Melanie Ruby Morales, operating a 2023 Kawasaki motorcycle, lost control and was run over by the truck. Investigators determined that both excessive speed on the part of Morales and the truck driver’s failure to maintain his lane contributed to the accident. The truck driver, 56-year-old Kojo Essandoh of Triangle, was charged with failure to maintain lane and has been released on a court summons.

Fatal Crash Investigation *DRIVER CHARGED – On October 9, crash investigators obtained a court summons for a traffic violation citing the driver of the 2009 Mack roll-off truck in the fatal collision that occurred in the area of Old Bridge Rd near Occoquan Rd in Woodbridge (22192) on September 5. The investigation revealed the driver of the truck, identified as the accused, failed to maintain his lane which contributed to the collision that killed a 23-year-old Woodbridge woman who was operating a 2023 Kawasaki motorcycle. At the time of the collision, the deceased was traveling at a high rate of speed which was also a contributing factor in the crash. Following the investigation, investigators obtained a summons for the accused, identified as Kojo ESSANDOH, who was served on October 15.

Fatal Crash Investigation [Previously Released] – On September 5 at 3:27PM, officers responded to the area of Old Bridge Rd. near Occoquan Rd. in Woodbridge (22192) to investigate a crash involving a motorcycle. The investigation revealed the operator of a 2023 Kawasaki motorcycle was traveling westbound on Old Bridge Rd. approaching Occoquan Rd. at a high rate of speed when the operator lost control and separated from the motorcycle before sliding under and being run over by a 2009 Roll-off Dumpster truck. The motorcycle operator was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash and was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the Mack truck remained at the scene and was not injured. Investigators determined speed was a factor in the collision. Crash investigators are asking anyone who may have witnessed this crash to contact police. The investigation continues.
