DALE CITY, Va. – Young girls can lace up their skates for free this fall at the Prince William Ice Center in Dale City and the Haymarket Iceplex, as part of the DMV Girls Try Hockey for Free Day on Saturday, Sept. 13. The event is open to girls ages 4 to 9 and offers a low-barrier introduction to the sport, backed by the Washington Capitals and regional youth hockey groups.

The Potomac Lady Patriots will host their free session at the Dale City rink, while the Piedmont Predators welcome newcomers at Haymarket. Each site will provide loaner gear for the one-to-two-hour experience, with registration now open.

The partnership between the owners of the Prince William Ice Center and the Capitals, valued at $200,000, will allow for the construction of the new rink on an unused portion of the Boys & Girls Club — more commonly known as The Hylton Club — sports fields.

The rink will be dry — meaning no ice will be seen, and it can be used year-round.

Prince William County could soon be home to a new inline hockey rink at the Hylton Boys and Girls Club in Dale City, following an in-depth discussion by the Board of County Supervisors during their December 17, 2024, meeting. The facility results from a partnership between the Boys and Girls Club, Prince William Ice Center, the Washington Capitals, and George Mason University.

Seth Hendler-Voss, the county’s Director of Parks and Recreation, introduced the project, describing it as “an exciting partnership opportunity to bring a new recreation amenity to Prince William County.” He outlined the proposed location and the collaboration required to make the rink a reality.
