Robert "Bob" Sweeney will take the reins at the Prince William Chamber of Commerce in January, succeeding Debbie Jones, who has been at the organization for 32 years.
Since he was tapped for the job in October, Sweeney has been working with Jones, learning the ropes, and getting to know the organization and the people who work there.

Jonathan Gifford directs George Mason University’s Center for Transportation Public-Private Partnership Policy and will speak about the future of public-private transportation projects in Northern Virginia.
The region has been one of the most active areas in the U.S. for public-private partnerships (P3s) to deliver highway expansion and renewal projects.
The region has three major express lane projects: Interstate 495, I-95, and the new lanes on I-66 opening this fall between Haymarket and the Capital Beltway. These three projects are responsible for the bulk of the new highway capacity delivered in the region in the 21st century.
The region has a long history of P3 projects, including Dulles Greenway and Route 28 in Loudoun County.
Jonathan Gifford will speak about the delivery of these three projects. How does Northern Virginia stand out from the rest of the U.S. in the use of P3s? Where is the region, the Commonwealth, and the nation headed using this form of infrastructure delivery? What are its strengths? Its limitations? Its pitfalls?

Over the years, KO Distilling has become one of my favorite places to hang out.
The Manassas-based distillery at 10381 Central Park Drive makes mean bottles of whiskey and gin and has a cozy tasting room full of bartenders who know how to turn those spirits into tasty cocktails. And, as we reported, they’re expanding into new regions of the U.S.
I had a blast hanging out at KO Distilling and with my fellow Prince William Chamber of Commerce members during a Business Afterhours event on Thursday, September 1. I connected with some old friends at APT Impact and Loveless Porter Architects and made some new ones, like Keepsakes Photo Booth and Apple Moving.
These events are a great way to get out of the office and connect with other professionals who live and work in the community. The Prince William Chamber is one of the most effective ways I’ve found to grow my online marketing and branding business here at Potomac Local Brand Studio.
I hope to see you this Thursday at the next after-hours event in Woodbridge, at American Family Care, 14087 Richmond Highway, near Todos Supermarket.
If you’re into golf, the Prince William Chamber will hold its inaugural Pints and Putts Golf Tournament at Old Hickory Golf Club, 11921 Chanceford Drive in Woodbridge, on Wednesday, September 28, 2022.
All golfers, no matter their skill level, are encouraged to join us for nine holes of golfing, networking, pints, and putts on the course.
Registration, lunch, and the practice range will open at noon, with a shotgun start at 1 p.m. The event wraps up at 6 p.m.
Tickets are on sale on the Chamber’s website here for $110. Each ticket includes samplings from local breweries Cedar Run Brewery and Tucked Away Brewing Company. Guests will also enjoy a boxed lunch, contests, a raffle, and registration gives players access to a pre-play practice range, nine holes, and a golf cart.
The Chamber will match those who need a foursome to play. There will also be a post-play reception so you and your new fearsome foursome can hang out and get to know each other.

The Prince William Chamber of Commerce will honor the armed forces.
The annual Salute to the Armed Forces is Thursday, October 20, 2022, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Chantilly Jet Center, 10660 Skyview Terrace, at the Manassas Regional Airport.
Guests will be provided lunch and hear from keynote speaker Gen. Larry O. Spencer, Vice Chief of Staff of the U.S. Air Force. Retired, Spencer now serves as president of the Armed Forces Benefit Association (AFBA) and 5Star Life Insurance Company. AFBA provides survivor and other benefits to the military, first responders, government employees, and their families.
Retiring as a four-star general, Spencer spent over 40 years in the Air Force. His last assignment was as the Vice Chief of Staff of the US Air Force, Pentagon, Washington, D.C. In this capacity, Spencer was the second highest-ranking military member in the Air Force. He presided over the Air Staff and assisted the Chief of Staff of the Air Force with organizing, training, and equipping 690,000 active-duty, Guard, Reserve, and civilian forces serving in the U.S. and overseas.
Caleb Green, of America’s, Got Talent fame, will sing the National Anthem, and the Washington, D.C. Joint Service Color Guard will present the colors.
Tickets to the event cost $65 for non-chamber members, $55 for members and may be purchased online.
