Updated Thursday, Oct. 10, 2024 -- Pickleball fans, grab your paddles: Fredericksburg’s new indoor pickleball facility will open on October 19. The Picklr location at 3700 Plank Road will be open daily from 6 a.m. to midnight.

Owner Jay Sartori said he and his partner Kim have been avid pickleball players for years. They “wanted to create a curated, ‘eatertainment-style’ pickleball club.” Guests will not only be able to play, but also socialize and enjoy great food. Sartori described pickleball as the fastest-growing sport in the U.S., outpacing tennis and golf combined.

Dill Dinkers is opening its first flagship location in Virginia at Manassas Mall on Saturday, June 8. The 16,485-square-foot facility features six indoor courts, event space, a pro shop, and a state-of-the-art reservation system. The club will offer a range of services, including clinics, lessons, leagues, and private event rentals. Pickleball pro-Gage Tutko will be on staff to enhance the player experience.

Expanding beyond Manassas, Dill Dinkers of Northern Virginia is in the process of establishing its first club in Falls Church. The launch timeline hinges on securing an appropriate venue, with a preference for spaces spanning 15,000 square feet to accommodate six to 12 courts. The fledgling firm is also considering abandoned warehouses, malls, and other mixed-use development spaces, from Fairfax to Fredericksburg.

“Arizona was named the best and Louisiana the worst state for pickleball, due to the state’s rainy weather conditions and lack of indoor facilities.”

“The findings considered factors like state interest, the availability of outdoor/indoor courts, and temperature fluctuations. Additionally, study considers air pollution, as higher levels may make it harder to exercise due to short-term respiratory effects.”

“Pickleball fanatics at Pickleball Union considered factors like monthly searches for related terms scaled against the population, the number of courts, average annual precipitation, and the average temperature from 72F, to assign each state a score out of 100.”

“As well as looking at the above factors, the ranking also considered the number of past pickleball events, upcoming events, and the air quality index. USA Pickleball states, A cross between tennis, badminton, and ping pong, pickleball is now the fastest-growing sport in the US, with over 4.8 million players, according to The Sports & Fitness Industry Association.”
