Prince William Parks & Recreation: “Mark your calendars for this Friday, December 1 at 5:30 p.m., as we kick off our 2nd annual Holiday Walk of Lights at Neabsco Regional Park.”

The park is located at 15125 Blackburn Road, Woodbridge.

“The public is invited to join us for an opening ceremony to officially ‘switch on the lights’ at 5:30 p.m. Shuttle bus from designated parking lots will begin running at 5:15 p.m. Balsamo’s Pizzeria & Taste and See Coffee food trucks will be onsite on opening night.”

“The free light displays will run through December 23. Dates and times vary, please click here for full dates/hours of operation.”

“This year, spectators can expect to view light displays crafted into the shape of ornaments, deer and 120-foot-long toy train lit to look like it’s moving, just to name a few.”

“In addition to its regular hours, there will be a special sensory-friendly only night on Tuesday, December 12, offering low lights and reduced volume of the light displays.”

“Please note that parking onsite at the park is reserved for those with disabled license plates or placards only. Everyone else must park at one of the free designated parking areas at Rippon Middle School or Porter Traditional School (except December 1), with overflow parking at Featherstone Elementary School. A free shuttle bus will run continuously back and forth every 10 – 15 minutes to pick people up from the designated parking locations and drop off at the light display. The last shuttle picks up at 8:45 p.m. and the lights turn off at 9:00 p.m. Each shuttle ride is approximately 2 – 3 minutes long.”

Prince William County Occoquan Supervisor Kenny Boddye: “The Prince William County Department of Public Works will be reintroducing freshwater mussels into streams it has restored, further improving water quality and enhancing biodiversity. Acting as a natural filter, an adult freshwater mussel can clean up to 10 gallons of water per day.”

“This project, made possible by a $75,000 grant through the National Wildlife Federation’s Chesapeake WILD program, is a testament to the successful restoration efforts of Public Works and to the power of regional partnerships. The Northern Virginia Regional Commission (NVRC) submitted the grant application and will join County staff in working with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service’s Harrison Lake National Fish Hatchery and the George Mason University Potomac Environmental Research and Education Center (PEREC) to administer the program.”

Prince William County will use one of its oldest buildings to tell the story of its role in the Revolutionary War.

Supervisors approved a request from the county parks and recreation office to seek about $5,000 in grant funds to bring a Revolutionary War exhibit to Williams Ordinary on Route 1 in Dumfries. Constructed in 1785, the building served as a tavern and inn.

St. Clair Brooks Park in Stafford County, Virginia

Stafford County: "The Environmental Division at Stafford County has been facilitating a stream restoration project at St. Clair Brooks Memorial Park to help prevent erosion. The stream restoration began major construction activities in March 2023."

"The efforts in the restoration will reduce the amount of sediment and pollutants by arresting the rate of erosion within the channel. The project aims to improve water quality; reestablish a connection between the stream and its natural floodplain; provide better aquatic habitat; and deliver an aesthetically pleasing recreational site for nearby park and disc golf visitors."
