Park planners want feedback on what will be the largest recreation area of its kind in Prince William County.
Prince William County's Department of Parks, Recreation, and Tourism is hosting a community master plan meeting on Doves Landing Park Thursday, April 21, from 7 to 9:00 p.m. at the Hellwig Administration Building Board Room, 14420 Bristow Road near Manassas.

When lawmakers convene in Richmond for the General Assembly next month, one local legislator will seek more funds for the region's busiest state park.
State Senator Scott Surovell (D-Fairfax, Prince William, Stafford) told PLN he would introduce legislation that aims to fund $11 million in improvements to Leesylvania State Park, at 2001 Daniel K. Ludwig Drive in Woodbridge.
During the summer months, families flock to the 556-acre park on the banks of the Potomac River to hike, fish, picnic, and boat on the river. So many families flock to the park on weekends, the entrance is often closed to additional visitors as the park quickly fills to its occupancy limit.

The newest stretch of the Potomac Heritage National Scenic Trail is open in Woodbridge.
Officials cut the ribbon on a new mile-and-a-half stretch of the trail, linking Veterans Memorial Park with the Occoquan Wildlife Refuge at Belmont Bay.
"This is something we've worked on for a long time, and it's great to have it finished," said Woodbridge District Supervisor Margaret Franklin.

WOODBRIDGE -- The Friends of Leesylvania State Park remembered Henry "Light Horse" Harry Lee III on the 200th anniversary of his death on Sunday.
A wreath was laid Sunday at the park's bicentennial monument commemorating the Revolutionary soldier who was born and raised in what today is the park.

WOODBRIDGE -- Vistors count on Leesylvania State Park to provide hiking trails, picnic tables, a bit of history, and expansive views of the Potomac River.
This summer, however, some would-be park guests have been turned away at the gate. Park officials said there's just no more room for them.
Leesylvania State Park has been temporarily closed six times this summer due to capacity issues. There are 600 parking spaces in the park, and when all 600 are full, Chief Ranger Karen Lambey closes the entrance gate.
