Northern Virginia Electric Cooperative: âNorthern Virginia Electric Cooperative (NOVEC) is teaming up with others in the energy industry to attract more women, particularly those who may be interested in field work.â
âOn Friday, Nov. 3, the Virginia, Maryland and Delaware Association of Electric Cooperatives (VMDAEC) will host a free, one-day energy career
experience for high school girls and young women who may be interested in working on a line crew, in a substation, with advanced metering technology, or as a fiber broadband technician.â
âInstructors will lead students through hands-on activities in the classroom and outdoors at the VMDAECâs state-of-the-art Electric Cooperative Training Center in Palmyra.â
âAttendees will learn about safety on the job, how to climb a utility pole, and operate a bucket truck. They will also meet individually with industry human resources professionals to review their resumes and discuss interviewing best practices.â
âRepresentatives will be available to answer questions about career paths and workplace culture. High school girls will have to take time off from school, but the day can count as a career exploration day for attendance purposes. The dayâs roster is limited to 60 participants.â
âHard hats and other necessary safety equipment will be provided. The minimum age for participants is about 15, but younger students may also be
considered. High school graduates are welcome as well. The only prerequisite is an interest in learning about a career in the electric utility industry.â

Northern Virginia Electric Cooperative: âNOVEC judges had their work cut out for them when it came to selecting just three winners in NOVECâs summer childrenâs art contest.â
âThe contest encouraged children to submit drawings about âHow my family uses electricity.â In total, 24 boys and girls submitted 27 masterpieces before Aug. 1, and then the volunteer judges reviewed and voted on them.â
âCongratulations to Justinn Tong-On, 11, of Aldie, who earned first place with a portrait of himself creating artwork on a computer. Justinn is in sixth grade at Mercer Middle School. As an added bonus, Justinn included a video that showed his process. Watch the video on NOVECâs Facebook page.â
âOliva Chen, of Ashburn, placed second in the competition. Olivia, 9, is in fourth grade at Belmont Station Elementary School. Her picture showed her family enjoying a myriad of appliances, tools, and entertainment devices, all powered by NOVEC-provided electricity.â
âIn third place is Aaddya Tiwari, 10, of Manassas. Aaddyaâs drawing showed lightbulbs illuminating a home with people cooking, playing on digital devices, and watching a soccer game on a big-screen TV. Aaddya is in fifth grade at Ellis Elementary School. NOVEC thanks all the talented participants for sharing their artwork.â
Northern Virginia Electric Cooperative: âNorthern Virginia Electric Cooperative (NOVEC) awarded $1,500 scholarships to 14 area high school seniors in May. An independent panel of judges evaluated applicants on their academic records, community involvement, work experience, demonstrated leadership, recommendations, and essays.â
âJudges also recognized Alexis Francis, of Prince William County, as the most outstanding student among the group of recipients. She received an additional $1,500 as the winner of the J. Manley Garber Scholarship, named for the late NOVEC Board of Directors chairman. Francis plans to attend Bridgewater College in Bridgewater, Virginia.â

NOVEC News Release: âNorthern Virginia Electric Cooperative, along with G&T Communications, announced June 10 that they have received one silver and three bronze Telly Awards for television advertisements. The Telly Awards honor excellence in video and television âacross all screens.â The Telly Awards Judging Council includes experts from Marvel, TIME, and Vimeo.â

The Virginia, Maryland & Delaware Association of Electric Cooperatives (VMDAEC) has announced that nine students whose families are served by the Northern Virginia Electric Cooperative (NOVEC) have been awarded $1,000 scholarships by the VMDAECâs Education Scholarship Foundation.
The association awarded 67 scholarships based on financial need, academic achievement, and personal statements; of the 15 co-ops comprising the VMDAEC, NOVEC tied for the most scholarship recipients. Rappahannock Electric Cooperative students also earned nine.

A NOVEC employee was shocked and flown to a hospital this afternoon.
This afternoon at 4:37 PM, units were dispatched to the Northern Virginia Electric Cooperative (NOVEC) Innovation Substation, located in the 9300 block of Godwin Drive, for a report of an individual who was electrocuted. A NOVEC employee, working on equipment, was accidentally electrocuted. The employee was rescued by fire and rescue personnel approximately 16â in the air on a manlift. The adult male victim was flown by helicopter to an area trauma center for evaluation.

Northern Virginia Electric Cooperative will accept post-holiday cut Christmas trees and greens at its Gainesville technical center at 5399 Wellington Branch Road, near Interstate 66 and Route 29, from Dec. 26, 2022, to Jan. 9, 2023. Consumers should leave greens in the parking lot area designated by orange safety cones.
All greens must be free of all decorations, ornament hooks, wires, and light strings.
