The Rappahannock Adult Activities’ annual greenery sale starts Wednesday, November 24, and features fresh trees, wreaths, garland, and poinsettias.

Shoppers will be able to enjoy a hot cocoa bar and a fun backdrop perfect for holiday portraits. And proceeds will help adults with an intellectual disability thrive in our community. RAAI offers opportunities to make new friends, explore new hobbies, and develop skills.

Customers can shop at 750 Kings Highway in Stafford County Monday through Friday from noon to 6 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The sale will be closed for Thanksgiving on November 25 and 26. The sale will be open while supplies last.

The three companies that provide cable TV and internet service to Prince William County residents will continue to do so until the end of 2022.

The Prince William of County Supervisors is expected to renew franchise agreements for Comcast, Verizon, and RCN at its 2 p.m. meeting on Tuesday, November 23.

Since 2018, county officials have been working to identify the community's "cable-related community needs so that it can finalize new cable franchise agreements with Comcast, Verizon, and RCN," county documents state.

A Spotsylvania woman died while helping a friend back out of a parking space.

At 11:16 a.m., deputies from the Stafford sheriff’s office received a report of a pedestrian struck in the parking lot of a beauty salon at 4 Harrell Road in the Falmouth section of the county.

The initial investigation revealed the 89-year-old driver of a Hyundai Elantra backed into the victim, pinning the pedestrian against an unoccupied, parked vehicle in the lot.

The woman succumbed to her injuries. Hazel Cobb, 66, of Spotsylvania, was pronounced dead. The accident is under investigation by the Traffic Safety Unit of the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office.

Cobb and the 89-year-old driver were friends, authorities said. The victim was helping the driver back out of a parking space when she was struck and killed.

Starting today, residents can go to Fredericksburg’s regional libraries to get a health check.

Central Rappahannock Regional Library has been selected as part of the Virginia Department of Health’s pilot program to distribute free COVID-19 antigen test kits.

Residents can pick up test kits through curbside pickup at any library branch, including the Porter and Howell branches in Stafford County. A CRRL library card is not required.

Kits will not be available at Fried Center at the Germanna Community College on Old Potomac Church Road or IdeaSpace on Princess Anne Street in Downtown Fredericksburg. Each kit is labeled with instructions and expiration date.

  • Use of a test kit requires:
    Valid picture ID*
    Internet connection
    Access to camera and microphone through phone or computer

Residents do not need to show a picture ID, nor a CRRL library card is required to pick up a test kit.

A tractor-trailer crashed on a curved on-ramp to Interstate 95.

The crash occurred about 11 a.m. Thursday, November 18. Traveling in North Stafford, the truck was using the highway entrance ramp from Route 610 west to I-95 south when it overturned.

Rescue crews went to the sharp curve to find the overturned vehicle. The entrance ramp reopened at about 12:30 p.m.

Authorities reported no serious injuries.

Authorities captured a teenager they say robbed a tobacco store and a nearby gas station with a knife.

The Stafford sheriff’s office reports:

At 2:07 p.m. on Wednesday, November 17, deputies responded to Tobacco and More in the 1000 block of Garrisonville Road for a robbery. Employees reported a thin black male entered the store and presented a knife, demanding cash from both registers.

The suspect additionally took vaping products values over $600 before fleeing on foot.

Detectives and deputies began canvassing the area for a suspect. Deputy R.S. Dominguez, Detective A. Sanchez, Jr. and Detective J.C. Wright III located a suspect on St. Roberts Drive. The suspect was identified as a 17-year-old male from Stafford County. Stolen vape product, cash and a knife were recovered.

The juvenile has been charged with robbery and is held at the Rappahannock Juvenile Detention Center.

The juvenile is also the suspect in a robbery of the nearby Sheetz at 1175 Garrisonville Road on November 11. The suspect displayed a knife and fled on foot from that robbery.

Detective C.L. Jacobs is the case officer for that robbery and will be seeking charges against the same juvenile.

There were no injuries in either robbery.

Prince William police report:

Armed Robbery – On October 26 at 11:48AM, officers responded to the 10100 block of Irongate Way in Manassas (20109) to investigate a robbery. The victim, an 18-year-old man, reported to police that he was walking in the parking lot of the above area when he observed two unknown men standing near parked vehicles.

As the victim walked near the men, one of them grabbed and pinned him against a light-colored SUV. One of the men then brandished a knife before taking the victim’s money.

The victim was able to temporarily separate from the suspects before they chased him on foot into a nearby neighborhood where a woman intervened. When the suspects observed the woman calling the police, they fled the area in the light-colored SUV.

While investigating, officers determined the SUV was a cream-colored 2007 Ford Edge with Virginia license plates: VUG-2438. The vehicle was previously reported stolen earlier that day from the Manassas area of Prince William County. No injuries were reported. The investigation continues.

Prince William police report:

Indecent Exposure – On October 25 at 5:00PM, officers responded to the 5500 block of Staples Mill Rd. in Woodbridge (22193) to investigate an indecent exposure. The victim, a 44-year-old woman, reported to police that while in the parking lot of the above location, she observed an unknown man, later identified as the accused, exposing himself. The victim continued walking and after a short time observed the accused walking behind her, still exposing himself and making inappropriate gestures. The victim confronted the accused who then left the area. While investigating, officers received information identifying the accused as Syed Rashed HOSSAIN, who was charged.
