More than 300 people signed up for the 45-minute tour, during which the public learned about the office’s mission, voter registration, equipment preparation, voting by mail, results reporting, and election officer staffing. Each segment offered an overview and practical demonstrations.
With partisan rhetoric about election security on both sides of the aisle, Eric Olson, Director of Prince William County Office of Elections, highlighted the importance of maintaining public trust. “We want to educate people on how elections work and the steps we take to ensure the integrity of their vote. With concerns about election integrity increasing, it’s important to show the public how the process operates.”

Manassas City Public School Board members did not approve a resolution to require monthly attendance reports be made public in a 4-2 vote Tuesday.
The issue of attendance at MCPS was born from a meeting on Oct. 10, 2023, where Chevese Thomas, executive director of student services, gave a 36-slide presentation on attendance. Board Member Sara Brescia expressed concerns and presented this resolution to the Board in February, but the discussion was postponed to this meeting, the first of the 2024-2025 school year.

Governor Glenn Youngkin announced today that the Virginia Lottery's fiscal year 2024 profits exceeded $934 million, the highest in its 36-year history. All profits from the Lottery go towards supporting K-12 public education in the Commonwealth.
Since 1999, Virginia Lottery profits have generated over $12 billion for Virginia's K-12 public schools. 10% of the Virginia K-12 education budget comes from the Lottery. The record profits in FY24 were driven by over $5.5 billion in sales, the highest ever. Tickets were purchased at over 5,300 businesses and online, and retailers earned $142 million in commissions and bonuses. Of that $5.5 billion, players received $4.2 billion in prizes, with 77 cents returned for every dollar spent. The Lottery also recorded a low administrative cost rate of 3.8%, which will be finalized after a standard audit by the Auditor of Public Accounts.

Jumbo Lump Crabcake Company, serving 100% jumbo crab meat, opened in March 2024 at 7541 Presidential Lane in Manassas.
Owner Brandon Frye was filming food shows along the East Coast when he visited G&M Restaurant in Baltimore, known for their crabcakes and winner of “Best of Baltimore” for many years.
“I was eating their crab cakes and realized that they were just as good as mine and I knew I was on to something”, he said.
Frye opened a commercial-based kitchen in his house in 2019 offering takeout and catering, before opening Jumbo Lump Crabcake Company in Manassas this past March. They offer carryout, delivery, and catering for Virginia, Maryland, and DC. Nationwide shipping is also available. “What sets our crab cakes apart is that they are 100 percent jumbo crab meat, the most expensive part of the crab,” Frye explained. “Most people will use half jumbo lump and half lump which is more shredded than big pieces of meat.”
They don’t stop at crab cakes, however. They also offer crab pretzels, shrimp pasta salads, sides, and cupcakes, all made in-house. One of their specialties is a special sauce to accompany the crab cakes called Boss Sauce. For an alternative to seafood, they make “The Big Bad BLT” with nine pieces of bacon.
Jumbo Lump Crabcakes is open 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
