
A biology class at the Governor's School in Innovation Park outside Manassas has been using molecular modeling software to teach its students about the chemical structures of medicines and other pharmaceuticals.
The Governor's School is a collaborative STEM initiative between Manassas, Manassas Park, and Prince William County public school systems. The school is also partnered with George Mason University and offers science, mathematics, engineering, research, and computer science courses for junior or senior high school students.
But even for these highly-intelligent students, some aspects of their studies can be challenging to grasp. One of those aspects, chemical structures, can be complicated even if it's being studied from a textbook.

Students in Prince William County Public Schools returned to the classroom today. It marks the end of summer vacation and a time of majority hybrid instruction, with some students in the classroom and at home learning virtually.
Today, the first time since the pandemic began in March 2020, students are back in the classroom five days a week. New school system Superintendent Dr. LaTanya McDade, who came to Prince William County from Chicago, welcomed children today.

Dr. Melissa Saunders was appointed as the next superintendent of Manassas Park City Schools at tonight's school board meeting.
She'll start her new job on July 1. She comes from neighboring Manassas, where, since 2016, she has worked as the executive director of student achievement for Manassas City Public Schools.
Saunders has 28 years of experience working in public education. She's worked as a teacher, assistant principal, principal, and director of curriculum and instruction in Loudoun County and in Pennsylvania and Delaware.
