There’s still time to swing by your library and get ready for the holiday season! Here’s the schedule:
- Wednesday, November 27: Libraries close early at 5:00 p.m.
- Thursday, November 28: Closed for Thanksgiving Day.
- Friday, November 29: Closed for the Thanksgiving holiday.
- Saturday, November 30: Dale City, Dumfries, Independent Hill, Lake Ridge, and Nokesville Libraries will be closed for the holiday weekend.
Heads-up! Chinn Park Library will be closed from Monday, November 18, through Sunday, December 8. Stop by today to stock up on books and resources!
The closure was caused by a pipe that became loose in the pump room located on the first floor of City Hall. The pump room is responsible for controlling the splash pad on the plaza, and the loose pipe resulted in water leaking into the library. Fortunately, staff noticed the leak, and a contractor was called to remove the water and set up fans and dehumidifiers to prevent further damage.
The repairs include inspecting electrical outlets that may have been exposed to water, replacing loose pipes, and installing a leak detector as a preventative measure. Minor repainting and reorganization of the library will also be necessary. Luck said the cost of the repairs is minimal, with most of it covered by the city’s insurance through VRSA.
In response to the closure, the library extended due dates for all borrowed materials, and readers can still return books via the book drop. The city anticipates no long-term disruptions and looks forward to welcoming patrons back on October 15.
The Manassas City Library celebrated its third anniversary on Saturday, Feb. 3, 2024, with a lively party attended by library staff, Manassas Mayor Michele Davis Younger, and councilmen Tom Osina and Mark Wolfe.
The celebration included a book sale organized by the Friends of Manassas City Library, which featured Manny the penguin, the library mascot.
During the event, Manny entertained partygoers by walking around, shaking hands, and taking photos. As the library enters its fourth year, the Friends of Manassas City Library has set a new goal to build a LEGO replica of Manny. The penguin mascot’s library adventure began on the library’s opening day, February 2, 2021, amid an ice storm.
Library staff revealed that Manny is short for Manassas and has become a heartwarming figure, captivating library-goers of all ages with his playful spirit and delightful wardrobe.
The Friends of Manassas City Library holds regular meetings on the first Monday of each month at 6 p.m., either at the library or online. The upcoming meeting is scheduled for Monday, February 5, 2024. More information is available by clicking here.
Located at 10104 Dumfries Road, next to a Giant Food store in the Wellington Station shopping center, the Manassas City Library is the first in the city.
The Manassas Library is smaller than the Central Library Branch at 8061 Mathis Avenue, which opened in 1974 just across the city line in Prince William County. It was the closest library to Manassas residents for 47 years.
When it opened, the 6,000-square-foot Manassas Library offered 15,000 materials, 12 public-use computers, one of the most popular services in the county library system, and quiet study rooms.
The library is part of the Prince William Public Library System.

The new Park Central Library at Manassas Park City Hall opened Sunday, September 11.
Tailored specifically to the needs of the Manassas Park community, the Park Central Library is a modern-day library offering virtual reality, 3D printing, technology, programs, and services, in addition to a large collection of books, digital books, and movies.
“A truly local resource, the new Park Central Library is an amazing asset for our community, offering education and enrichment options for every community member. Opening the library is a huge milestone in our downtown redevelopment project. As residential and commercial development in the area continues, community members can start taking advantage of the Library. A cornerstone of the Park Central Plaza, the Park Central Library makes Manassas Park an even better place to live, work and thrive.” Said City Manager, Laszlo Palko.
During an opening celebration on Sunday, September 11, residents toured the library, checked out books, and participated in opening day activities, including a balloon artist, an introduction to virtual reality, crafts, a library scavenger hunt, storytimes, and more.
“We look forward to serving and connecting with more community members and sharing our expanded collections, programs, and services,” said Library Director Holly Ritchie.

The Manassas Park Library opened in 2020 at Blooms Park, the former Generals Ridge Golf Course. That same year, Manassas Park ended its 41-year relationship with the Prince William County Public Library System and opened the first library branch to be managed by the city.
