The Manassas City Council deferred a decision on allowing commercial airline services at its airport during its next meeting on July 24, 2023.

The city aims to contract with Avports, LLC to bring as many as 30 commercial flights daily to the airport in jets, accommodating nearly 200 passengers.

The Manassas City Council killed a proposal to offer affordable housing to police, firefighters, teachers, and other Manassas City Government employees.

During its Monday, June 12 meeting, the council voted to deny a request to rezone the nearly three-acre Manassas Arms apartment complex on Wesley Avenue, near Osbourn High School, to allow 28 new townhomes next to the existing 24-unit apartment complex.

The council scheduled a meeting tomorrow, Saturday, June 10, 2023, at the posh Airlie Conference Center in Warrenton. A city spokeswoman said, "It’s a quick one-day retreat."

Equality Prince William will hold its second Pride festival on Sunday, May 21, 2023, at Harris Pavilion in Manassas.

The event will feature multiple drag queen shows and vendors selling products and providing information about services available to LGBTQ residents.

The city issued a permit for the event at the pavilion, which serves as a town square. Many residents who spoke at a May 8 City Council meeting urged the city to rescind its permit due to the planned drag queen performances.

Thirty-six townhomes are being considered on Wesley Avenue in Manassas.

In a first for the city, Manassas is considering rezoning more than two acres in the city's downtown sector for a housing project that would give city government employees the first crack at renting homes.

During the Manassas City Council meeting on Monday, April 10, 2023, Elm Street Development seeks to purchase the 2.55 acres on which the Manassas Arms Apartments sit, 8812 Wesely Avenue, pushing the city council to rezone the land from R5 (historic overlay and multi-family) to B 3.5 (city center, planned) in hopes of building 36 townhomes next to the 24 apartments, near Osbourn High School (the apartments back to the school's football stadium).

During a Manassas City Council meeting on Monday, March 27, we learned Councilman Tom Osina pulled his proposal to fund the city schools categorically.

Osina issued the proposal, threatening to withhold funding from the city's public schools if it did not come forward with plans to rebuild the 60-year-old elementary school, at 9061 Dean Lane, by July 2024.

One hundred Georgetown South residents will get a third parking permit from the city and won't have to pay a dime.

The Manassas City Council approved the measure at its Monday, March 27, 2023, meeting. Councilman Tom Osina, who lives in Georgetown South, a neighborhood of townhomes in Downtown Manassas, motioned to approve the measure.

Patrick Pate, the man who oversees the Manassas City Government, is making more money.

The city council approved a 3% pay raise for Pate, whose been the city’s manager for the past 10 years. Pate’s annual salary is now $248,207, which the city council approved late last month.

As city manager, he is responsible for an operating budget of $328 million and a capital budget of $205 million, providing all aspects of local government service delivery.

This includes water, sewer, electric utilities, police, fire, rescue, public works, engineering, social services, a regional airport, economic development, planning, community development, and staff services.

Pate has overseen several public works projects during his tenure, including a newly-opened, four-story police department, an $6 million addition to the city museum, and the current $12 million city hall overhaul.

Pate also lives in Manassas.
