
Police have arrested a suspect in connection to the fatal shooting of a 22-year-old man in the 8300 block of Sunset Drive near Manassas on January 9.
Marlon Osvaldo Bautista, 20, of Manassas Park, was apprehended on January 13 and charged with second-degree murder and the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. Bautista is being held without bond, and a court date is pending.
The victim has been identified as Calvin Tyshaun Odell Batsone, 22, of Woodbridge. Police say Batsone was shot during an altercation involving two groups that escalated into gunfire. The groups fled the scene in separate vehicles, and Batsone was later transported to an area hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. No additional injuries or property damage were reported.
The investigation initially faced challenges as Bautista remained at large after a warrant was issued for his arrest. Detectives worked to locate Bautista and apprehend him, ensuring justice for the victim and his family.

Assault
– Marion Manor Nursing Home: A staff member assaulted another during a disagreement. The suspect was charged with assault and battery and held without bond.
– Shasta Place: A male suspect bit the victim during a verbal altercation. He was charged with assault and battery but released on personal recognizance.
DUI
Deputies discovered a car in a ditch on Courthouse Road. The driver admitted to drinking beer, with three empty cans found in her vehicle. She was charged with DUI, drinking while driving, and refusal, and held on a $3,000 bond.
Hit and Run
A vehicle struck a VDOT sign and two unoccupied trucks at EZ Auto Sales before the driver fled. Deputies identified the suspect using evidence left in the vehicle, and warrants for hit and run and property destruction were issued.
Larceny
– Enlighten Church: A van was stolen from the parking lot. The investigation is ongoing.
– Holiday Inn: A victim’s cash, tequila, and a female companion vanished during a late-night meeting.
– Lancelot Lane: An Amazon package marked as delivered was reported stolen after it couldn’t be located.
Public Intoxication
A drunk male passed out in the lobby of Quality Inn was arrested and held at the jail until sober.
Vandalism
Three juveniles broke into an abandoned house on Ferry Road, shattering a window. They attempted to flee but were apprehended. Criminal complaints were filed, and they were released to their parents.

– Buffalo Wild Wings: A man wanted for failure to pay child support and additional warrants from Maryland was arrested.
– S Pointe Lane: A woman wanted in Alabama was arrested after deputies responded to a disturbance.

A man wanted in connection with a fatal crash in Nokesville has been arrested. On January 8, 2025, Prince William County Police apprehended James Francis Byrd, 62, of Woodbridge. Byrd faces charges of involuntary manslaughter – DUI related and DUI for his role in the crash that occurred on August 28, 2024, along Bristow Road near Windy Hill Drive.
Police reported that Byrd, the driver of a 2021 Toyota Tundra, had a blood alcohol content (BAC) above the legal limit at the time of the crash. The collision claimed the life of Thomas Spencer Stark, 63, of Nokesville, who was driving a 2003 Lexus GX. Byrd’s court date is pending, and bond information is unavailable.
The crash occurred at 6:24 p.m. on August 28, 2024, when Byrd’s eastbound Tundra crossed the center line into the westbound lane, colliding head-on with Stark’s vehicle, police said. The impact caused Stark’s Lexus to spin off the roadway and rest in a ditch. Stark was transported to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. Byrd sustained minor injuries and was also transported to a hospital for treatment.
Following the crash, investigators with the Prince William County Police Crash Investigation Unit issued arrest warrants for Byrd on December 11, 2024. Attempts to locate him were initially unsuccessful.
Death Investigation: Unconscious Man Found on Roadway
On December 28, at approximately 1:18 a.m., officers responded to the intersection of Dale Boulevard and the I-95 northbound ramp in Woodbridge (22191) to investigate reports of an unconscious man in the roadway. A motorist passing through the area spotted the man and contacted emergency services. The 27-year-old was transported to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
Investigators have yet to determine whether the man was struck by a vehicle or suffered injuries from another incident. An autopsy by the Medical Examiner’s Office is pending to ascertain the cause of death. Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed the incident to come forward. The investigation is ongoing.

The deceased was identified as Tarone Lamont Bland, 27, of Woodbridge.
Death Investigation: Temple Member Found Dead
On December 26, at approximately 12:30 p.m., officers were called to the Watt Buddhacheya Mongkol Buddhist Temple, located at 3905 Old Bridge Road in Woodbridge (22192), for a reported death. Temple members discovered the body of a 48-year-old man with severe burns in a bedroom on the premises.
The deceased was known to reside at the temple. Preliminary investigations suggest no signs of foul play. The cause and manner of death are under review by the Medical Examiner’s Office. Updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
Stafford County
“A Lot of Cocaine” Arrest
A 26-year-old Stafford man was arrested for trafficking and selling controlled substances, thanks to the diligent efforts of detectives with the Special Investigations Unit.
Since November, detectives have been investigating a suspected cocaine dealer operating in Stafford County. Their investigation led them to identify Joshua Daniels as a person of interest. As a result, a warrant for the distribution of controlled substances was obtained.
Late last week, deputies from the Special Investigations Unit, Special Problems Unit, and K-9 Team conducted a traffic stop on Daniels’ vehicle on I-95 near mile marker 140. Daniels, confirmed as the driver, was taken into custody without incident. When informed that K-9 Mija, handled by Deputy F.A. Martinez, would conduct an exterior sniff of the vehicle, Daniels admitted to having “a lot of cocaine.”
Detectives discovered Daniels was actively transporting over 16 ounces of cocaine from New York into the Commonwealth. The cocaine, valued at approximately $44,800 on the street, was seized during the stop. An additional warrant for drug trafficking was obtained, and Daniels was served on both warrants. He is currently being held at Rappahannock Regional Jail without bond.
Woodbridge Woman, Stolen SUV
When driving a stolen vehicle, it might not be the best idea to pass a deputy. A Woodbridge woman learned this lesson on Christmas Eve.
On December 24, at approximately 9:50 a.m., Deputy S.C. Martin was assisting with an auto accident on the Jessica Cheney Bridge, an incident previously shared on the department’s Facebook page. While on the scene, a Nissan Rogue passed through the area, catching the deputy’s attention. The vehicle was reported stolen out of Prince William County.
Deputy Martin immediately alerted nearby units to the vehicle’s whereabouts. Deputy J.L. Jones located the stolen SUV at the Wawa parking lot at 3099 Richmond Highway. The driver, identified as Ashley Stephenson, 32, quickly exited the vehicle and fast-walked into the store.
Deputy Jones stayed near the stolen car while observing Stephenson make her way to the back of the business. She attempted to flee through the rear exit but was met by Deputy Martin, who was waiting for her with arms wide open.
Stephenson was detained without incident and charged with unauthorized use of a vehicle and driving with a suspended license. She was held at Rappahannock Regional Jail without bond. The vehicle’s owner has been informed of its recovery.

The Stafford County Sheriff’s Department has arrested Nicolas Hartman, 26, of Gainesville for a Nov. 1 hit-and-run where two pedestrians were struck on Mine Road. Hartman was charged with two counts of felony hit and run, and one count of false pretenses related to an insurance claim.
Shortly after 10 p.m. on Nov. 1, two pedestrians were crossing Mine Road near Greenspring Drive with a shopping cart when they were struck by a dark Volkswagon that fled the scene. One pedestrian was life-flighted with serious injuries after a witness performed CPR. He remains in a rehabilitation facility.
Stafford Sheriff’s Office:Â
On November 1st at 10:14 p.m. two pedestrians with a shopping cart were struck on Mine Road near Greenspring Drive. The suspect never stopped to check on the injured pedestrians and fled the scene in his vehicle. However, the suspect left behind pieces of his vehicle which helped lead to his arrest. One of the pedestrians was transported by ambulance to an area hospital and was released several days later. The other pedestrian received life-threatening injuries and was flown from the scene by helicopter. Although expected to recover, the second pedestrian remains in a rehabilitation facility.
Deputy S.C. Martin was assigned as the lead investigator and began a search for the suspect vehicle, a Volkswagen Jetta GLI. Working with the National Insurance Crime Bureau (NCIB), Deputy Martin tracked the suspect vehicle to a storage lot in Spotsylvania County. He obtained a search warrant and seized the Volkswagen on November 26th. Additional evidence was obtained during the search of the vehicle linking it to the hit and run in Stafford County.
Today, with the assistance of the Prince William County Police Department, Deputy Martin arrested Nicolas Hartman, 26, of Gainesville for two counts of felony hit and run and one count of false pretenses related to the insurance claim. Hartman was granted a $5,000 bond by the magistrate and confined in the Rappahannock Regional Jail.

A 2017 Volkswagen Golf GTI traveling northbound veered off the roadway into a field, striking a utility pole. The impact caused the vehicle to overturn multiple times and catch fire. The driver, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities confirmed no other vehicles were involved, and speed was identified as a factor in the crash.
The driver’s identity is pending confirmation and notification of next-of-kin. Police urge anyone who may have witnessed the crash to contact investigators.
Stafford Busts Major Drug Operation

A significant drug bust in Stafford County led to the arrests of Gesiah Hill, 22, and Henry Rojas, 24, both of Stafford, following a December 19th search of their Rappahannock Landing residence. Authorities uncovered:
– 1 kilogram of cocaine ($30,000 value)
– 35 pounds of marijuana ($122,500 value)
– 1,000 THC vape pens ($40,000 value)
– 100 ecstasy pills ($2,000 value)
– 3 handguns ($1,500 value)
– 60 boxes of ammunition ($900 value)
– $9,800 in cash

Hill was charged with possession with intent to distribute cocaine and marijuana, possession of a firearm with drugs, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. He is held without bond. Rojas faces conspiracy to distribute drugs and is held on a $5,000 bond.
The investigation began when New Mexico authorities alerted Stafford detectives during a traffic stop involving Hill and Rojas. The Stafford SWAT and Drone teams executed the search warrant, making these arrests a clear warning to drug dealers to avoid Stafford County. The investigation is ongoing.

Fredericksburg Police Arrest Third Suspect in Downtown Shooting Case
The Fredericksburg Police Department has arrested Eric Costley, 22, of Spotsylvania, in connection with the December 14th downtown shooting that claimed the life of Tyler Lee Jones, 23, of Fredericksburg. Costley faces charges of second-degree murder, firearm use in a felony, and aggravated malicious wounding. He is being held at the Rappahannock Regional Jail.
The shooting occurred near Castiglias Italian and Fahrenheit 132 restaurants in the 400 block of William Street, a bustling downtown area. Police responded at 1 a.m. to reports of gunfire and found Jones on Charles Street with gunshot wounds. Despite rescue efforts, he later died at the hospital.
Police already have two additional suspects in custody.
Elijah Musgrove surrendered to authorities at the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office in West Virginia on December 19 after eluding law enforcement for several days. Police did not provide his age.
Izaiah Jabbar Daniels, 21, of Woodford, was apprehended on December 15th during a vehicle stop by the Orange County Sheriff’s Office. Daniels is currently held at the Rappahannock Regional Jail and faces charges of second-degree murder and the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.

Attempted Malicious Wounding
An incident was reported on December 17 at the Broadstone at River Oaks Apartments near Dumfries. A 42-year-old woman sustained minor injuries during a domestic dispute when an acquaintance, identified as Derrick Raynaun Jackson, struck her and dragged her a short distance with his vehicle, police said. Warrants have been issued for Jackson’s arrest, but he remains at large.
Bomb Threat Investigation
A bomb threat investigation occurred on the morning of December 17 at a construction site on Hayden Road in Manassas. A written threat was discovered on the door of a portable bathroom, prompting an evacuation. No credible threat was found after a search of the area.
Rape Investigation
A 19-year-old man, Christopher Garcia Moreno, was arrested on December 10 following a rape investigation in Woodbridge. The incident, involving a victim under 13, occurred in July 2023. Moreno faces charges of rape, and his court date is pending, police said.
Strangulation and Domestic Assault
On December 17, a domestic dispute in Haymarket escalated into strangulation and assault. A 13-year-old girl reported the incident, which involved a family member, Jamon Dieonize Carter, who grabbed her by the neck during an argument, police said. Carter was arrested and charged with strangulation, domestic assault, and battery.
Assault on a Corrections Officer
An assault occurred early on December 18 at the Prince William-Manassas Regional Adult Detention Center. During an altercation, Brandon Edwards, 35, reportedly elbowed a corrections officer. Edwards has been charged and remains incarcerated.

Reckless rider arrested after fleeing traffic stop

On the morning of December 17, a motorcyclist attempted to evade a traffic stop on Telegraph Road. Deputy R. Tully initiated the stop after noticing Cruz’s motorcycle had no license plate. Instead of complying, Cruz fled at high speed.
After investigating and speaking to witnesses, Deputy Tully located Cruz and his motorcycle, which had a dead battery, in a North Stafford neighborhood. Cruz admitted he was aware of the attempted traffic stop but offered no explanation for fleeing or for the lack of a license plate and a motorcycle endorsement. , Jonathan Cruz, 18, of Fredericksburg, was charged with felony eluding, reckless driving, and operating a motorcycle without proper documentation. He remains in custody on a $2,000 bond.

Walmart, 11 Village Parkway, 12/16, 6:41 a.m. Deputy F.C. O’Neill responded to a disturbance. Staff advised a female suspect was screaming at random people inside the business and threatened employees. As soon as Deputy O’Neill entered the business, his ears were assaulted by the continuing screams the suspect was hurling at employees. While attempting to detain the suspect, she would resist; however, that got her nowhere. She was charged with disorderly conduct and held at Rappahannock Regional Jail on a $1,000 secured bond.DUI:
Hollywood Church of Brethren, 225 Ferry Road, 12/15, 12:11 a.m. Deputy D.S. Jett was traveling in the area when he observed a swerving Nissan with its high beams active despite opposing traffic being present. Deputy Jett conducted a traffic stop and made contact with the driver. The driver had signs of intoxication, admitted to consuming “three beers,” and did not have a driver’s license. He was charged with driving under the influence, driving without a license, failure to maintain the lane of travel, and failure to dim high beams. He was held at Rappahannock Regional Jail on a $2,000 secured bond.Jiffy Lube, 724 Warrenton Road, 12/15, 4:49 a.m. Deputy C.R. Newman was observing traffic on Warrenton Road when a vehicle made a U-turn during a red light. Considering the infraction occurred right in front of him, Deputy Newman quickly conducted a traffic stop. The driver had signs of intoxication and admitted to running the red light because of “stomach issues.” The driver would have bigger issues during the field sobriety tests when he refused deputies commands and attempted to get back into his vehicle. He was detained shortly after. The driver was charged with driving under the influence, failure to obey a traffic light, and obstruction of justice. He was held at Rappahannock Regional Jail until sober.
Area of Richmond Highway and Telegraph Road, 12/15, 9:33 p.m. Deputy J.J. Suh responded to a drunk driver complaint. The caller advised a black Ford was having a hard time maintaining its lane. Deputy Suh found the suspect vehicle pretty easily due to it still swerving around and he conducted a traffic stop. When Deputy Suh made contact with the driver and asked if there was a reason why she was swerving, the driver advised it was because she was “drunk.” Her honesty continued as she admitted to consuming five Modelos. She was charged with driving under the influence with a blood alcohol content above .2. She was held at Rappahannock Regional Jail until sober.
Intersection of Kings Highway and Cool Springs Road, 12/16, 6:06 p.m. Deputy R.B. Brooks and Deputy C.D. Quebedeaux responded to a drunk driver complaint. It was advised a Jeep was driving in the middle of the roadway. When deputies arrived, they observed the Jeep displaying less than ideal driving behaviors. As deputies made contact with the driver, she would ask for directions to CVS in order to pick up her “meth.” While CVS is a drug store, it is not that kind of drug store. After field sobriety tests, the driver was charged with driving under the influence and held at Rappahannock Regional Jail until sober. It is not all bad news, for the driver remarked multiple times that due to this, deputies “saved my life.”
PUBLIC INTOXICATION:
Bearded Monkey, 564 Warrenton Road, 12/15, 1:33 a.m. Deputy R.L. Beasley responded to a report of some monkey business. It was advised a male, who was acting belligerent, was attempting to fight people. Deputy Beasley made contact with the suspect and quickly noticed strong signs of intoxication. The suspect was charged with public intoxication and held at Rappahannock Regional Jail until sober.
Two vehicles were traveling northbound at a high rate of speed when one of them, a 2013 BMW 650I, changed lanes and struck a 2020 Mercedes E-Class, which was not involved in the speeding. The Mercedes hit the guardrail, while the BMW struck the jersey wall, ejecting its driver. The Mercedes then struck the driver of the BMW.
The driver of the BMW, Kenneth D. Buckner, 35, of Washington, D.C., died at the scene. Police confirmed he was not wearing a seatbelt. A passenger in the BMW, Tyra Williams, 29, was partially ejected and sustained serious injuries. She was transported to an area hospital for treatment.
The other vehicle traveling at a high speed is described as a dark-colored Infiniti sedan. It did not strike any vehicles. The crash remains under investigation.

Strong-Arm Robbery Arrest
A suspect involved in a strong-arm robbery that occurred on August 5, 2023, was arrested on December 3, 2024. Alexis Ayestas Romero, 31, of York Drive in Woodbridge, allegedly took keys forcefully from a 26-year-old woman following a verbal altercation. Romero has been charged with robbery, and court proceedings are pending.
Indecent Exposure and Indecent Liberties Arrest
In Woodbridge, police arrested Kieare Jeremiah Whitmore, 23, on December 16 for indecent exposure and indecent liberties. Officers were called to Anderson Court after a woman witnessed Whitmore exposing himself and making inappropriate gestures. An earlier incident on December 11 involved a juvenile and an adult victim. Whitmore faces two counts of indecent exposure and one count of indecent liberties and is being held on a $2,500 unsecured bond.
Attempted Residential Burglary in Manassas
An attempted residential burglary was reported in Manassas on December 16. Surveillance footage showed an unknown man entering a backyard on Lomond Drive and trying to gain access to the home through a rear door. The suspect fled after being confronted by a neighbor, and no property was taken.
Assault and Battery on a Law Enforcement Officer
Kenneth Robin Grey, 39, of Chantilly, was arrested on December 15 for assaulting a law enforcement officer. Officers located Grey inside a stolen vehicle in a parking lot on Daniel Stuart Square in Woodbridge. Grey allegedly resisted arrest, leading to a brief struggle in which he and an officer sustained minor injuries. Grey was charged with assault and battery on a law enforcement officer, possession of stolen goods, and obstruction of justice. He is being held without bond.
