Prince William County fire and rescue: “Early this morning, units were dispatched for a townhouse fire in the 3000 block of Eagle Rock Court (Lake Ridge). Crews arrived on the scene a short time later and were met with smoke showing from the front of the structure. “
“All occupants were out of the house after having been alerted by sounding smoke detectors. The occupants (2 adults and 3 children) were forced to evacuate from a second story window to the ground below prior to fire and EMS units arriving. Both of the adults were injured during their evacuation and transported to a nearby medical facility with non-life-threatening injuries.”
“The home sustained extensive damage and was determined unsafe to occupy by the Building Official. The Fire Marshal’s Office determined the fire started from an electrical source in the living room.”
“This incident could have had a tragic outcome had it not been for working smoke detectors. Fire Chief Thomas LaBelle states, ‘All residences must and should have smoke detectors’. Smoke detectors provide the optimal warning to occupants by providing sufficient time to escape a structure fire. For more information you can contact the Fire Marshal’s Office at 703-792-6360 or contact your nearest fire station.”
Prince William County fire and rescue: “[Monday, September 11, 2023, 10:45 AM] units were dispatched to the 12900 block of Orleans Street (Lake Ridge) for a house fire. Crews arrived with smoke and fire showing from the attic in the front of the house. An occupant had been outside, smelled smoke and observed smoke coming from the attic. Rapid actions quickly extinguished the flames. No injuries were reported. The structure sustained moderate damage and was posted unsafe to occupy by the Building Official. The American Red Cross assisted the two (2) adult occupants. The Fire Marshal’s Office contributed the cause of the fire to a faulty attic fan.”
“The Defendant will be sentenced on November 16, 2023. Members of the victim’s family will present victim impact testimony at that time. The Defendant faces a maximum term of imprisonment of 10 years in prison.”
“In the early evening hours of June 18, 2022, the Defendant, Gentil Mwenze Banze, was driving his motor vehicle westbound on Old Bridge Road. Witnesses described the Defendant’s vehicle as swerving in and out of his lane of travel, almost striking other vehicles, before veering to the right and leaving the roadway.”
“The Defendant’s vehicle entered the sidewalk and struck a pedestrian, Mr. Luis Alfredo Perez, Jr., 45, who had been out walking the family dog that evening. After the Defendant struck Mr. Perez, Jr. and his dog, he crashed into the utility pole located in the area of Cape Cod Ct, bringing down live power lines and causing an audible and visible explosion on Old Bridge Rd.”
“Investigator Chad Mason of the Prince William County Crash Investigation Unit noted that the Defendant had an odor of alcoholic beverage coming from his person, had a slight sway to his body as he was standing, had bloodshot and watery eyes, and exhibited signs of impairment in all three standardized field sobriety tests that he attempted.”
“The Defendant later admitted to drinking Guinness Beer prior to driving, and testing later confirmed the Defendant’s blood alcohol content to be 0.11g/210L of breath approximately three hours after the crash had occurred. Unfortunately, both Mr. Perez Jr. and his dog succumbed to the injuries they sustained as a result of the crash.”
“The Office of the Commonwealth Attorney would like to commend and thank the Prince William County Crash Investigation Unit, particularly Investigator Chad Mason, for their investigation and work that successfully resulted in a conviction in this case.”
“In addition, the Office of the Commonwealth’s Attorney would like to thank Arturo Guzman, a Case Manager for the Office of the Commonwealth’s Attorney Victim/Witness program, for the assistance he has provided to the victim’s family in this case. This case was prosecuted by Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney Sarah Sami.”
Press release: "Karla Justice ...[is] condemning the extremely racist remarks made by Supervisor Kenny Boddye. While being interviewed by the Prince William Times about the recent primary election results, Supervisor Boddye seemed to suggest that the Democrat nominee for Board Chair, Deshundra Jefferson, only won because she was black."
"During the interview, Boddye is quoted as saying, “I think it speaks to the support on the Democratic side to elect candidates of color; she is poised to be the first Black and Black woman chair.” Jefferson, the Democrat victor in the primary upset cited Boddye’s remarks as “extraordinarily racist.” Karla Justice said 'I'm joining Deshundra Jefferson and a host of other leaders in condemning my opponent's remarks as extremely racist and out of touch. I am so proud of our very diverse community for making their voices and concerns heard on Primary Election Day. I resent the idea that any of our candidates were elected simply because of their race.'
