The programs are both being held at George Mason University’s Hylton Performing Arts Center in Manassas. The programs focus on different topics and presented by two experts in their own right.
LLI offers two programs each year in the fall and spring for adults aged 50 and over, drawing on members, local college faculty and residents’ expertise. Classes are typically held at the Hylton Center, as well as local churches, mosques, the Manassas Park Recreation Center and the Manassas campus of Northern Virginia Community College.
The first presentation from 10:30 a.m. to noon will be given by Gene Schmiel, a retired U.S. Department of State foreign service officer, former history professor and Civil War lecturer at LLI before, on the steamboats traversing the Mississippi River following the Louisiana Purchase.
The second presentation, held from 1:30 to 3 p.m., will be given by Judge Craig Johnston, a semi-retired Prince William County Circuit Court Judge and lawyer in Manassas for more than 30 years. Johnston will discuss when and how the Constitution is applied in cases in Virginia Courts.

This captivating 25-minute production, written by veteran broadway theatre artist Herb Williams, will debut on September 14th, opening up the 2024 PWC Arts Alive Festival at the Hylton Performing Arts Center.

WHAT: Arts Alive! is Prince William County’s free, family-friendly community arts festival produced jointly by the Prince William County Arts Council, the County Department of Parks and Recreation and the Hylton Performing Arts Center. The annual arts festival features the talents of Prince William County Arts Council members and other community performers and fine artists.
Enjoy activities for all ages, multiple stages of performances, food and craft vendors, and more! Come out and celebrate your local arts community!
Admission is free and food and beverages will be available for purchase. Event will take place rain or shine.

Bricks & Minifigs of Woodbridge sponsors an ARTfactory Pied Piper Theatre Intensive, Anastasia the Musical.
Anastasia: The Musical is a 60-minute adaptation of the Broadway musical. The story unfolds from the end of the Russian Empire to the 1920s Paris. A young woman seeks to resolve the mystery of her past while a Soviet officer tries to stop her. She teams up with a con man and a former aristocrat on a journey to find a home, love, and family.
Performances are scheduled at the Hylton Performing Arts Center on Friday, July 26, at 7 p.m. and Saturday, July 27, at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.
Ticket prices are $25 for adults, $20 for seniors, students, and early-bird adults, and $17 for early-bird students and seniors.
On Tuesday, January 23, 2024, the Democratic National Committee (DNC) is set to host a high-profile event at the Hylton Performing Arts Center on George Mason University’s SciTech Campus outside Manassas, featuring President Joe Biden, first lady Jill Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris, and second gentleman Douglas Emhoff.
This event is not affiliated with the university and is strictly invitation-only, states a university spokeswoman. Security measures will be robust to ensure the safety of attendees and dignitaries. The anticipated high-profile nature of the gathering is expected to result in significant traffic and parking disruptions on and around the SciTech Campus.
Parking restrictions will be enforced starting Monday at 11 p.m., with limited access to various parking lots. The Hylton parking lot, Beacon resident and retail parking lots, Tower Hall parking lot, and Cannon parking lot will be off-limits to the public during this period.
Furthermore, starting at noon on Tuesday, parking in the Occoquan and Discovery lots will be exclusively reserved for event attendees. George Mason University students and employees are advised to utilize the King and Freedom Center parking lots after noon.
While Mason Shuttles will continue to operate on its regular schedule, there will be no pick-up or drop-off at the Hylton Performing Arts Center. Those who work or attend classes at SciTech are urged to factor in extra time for entering and exiting the campus, as intermittent closures of campus and adjacent roads to traffic are expected.
A university spokeswoman states that the university administration encourages all campus community members to plan accordingly, considering the potential disruptions caused by the event.
Airport restrictions in effect
A temporary flight restriction occurs from 2:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Manassas Regional Airport. This includes no aircraft activity, practice approaches, touch-and-gos, and drone activity, the airport posted to Facebook. Wakeman Drive will be closed south of the intersection of Harry J Parrish and Wakeman Drive. Follow traffic directions and plan for additional travel time, airport management states.
The airport is the largest municipal airport in Virignia.

Leadership Prince William announces its upcoming “Mardi Gras Casino ” fundraiser, which is scheduled for March 22, 2024, at the Hylton Performing Arts Center, 10960 George Mason Circle, near Manassas.
The event runs from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. and features a live auction, hors d’oeuvres, and a cash bar. Tickets are $75 each and open to the public.
