The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) and I-66 Express Mobility Partners (EMP), the Commonwealth's private partner and operator of the new 66 Express Lanes outside the Beltway, announced today that the eastbound direction of the new 66 Express Lanes from Route 28 in Centreville to I-495 (Capital Beltway) Ā opened today, Tuesday, November 22.
The westbound direction of this same 13-mile section of express lanes opened on Saturday, November 19. Drivers should use caution when traveling on I-66, as traffic becomes acclimated to the new express lanes and ramps.
Now, the entire 22.5-mile 66 Express Lanes corridor from Route 29 in Gainesville to I-495 will be open with tolling and HOV-2+ rules in effect.

Ridership on Virginia Railway Express continues to decline in the most populated jurisdictions served by the commuter rail service.
Today, the commuter railroad operations board met at the OmniRide transit center in Woodbridge for its monthly meeting and discussed the results of its November 2022 ridership survey. The questionnaire asks riders where they live and where they usually board the trains.
According to the data reported today, ridership in Fairfax County (1.2 million population) is down 3%, down 2% in Prince William County (465,000 people), and down by about 1.5% in Stafford County (157,000 population).

Mark your calendars for Wednesday, November 16, at 10:00 a.m., when Fairfax Water will once again be testing the Occoquan Dam warning siren.Ā Established in part through funding secured by Congressman Gerry Connolly, the siren is designed to alert people and encourage them to seek higher ground in the highly unlikely event of a massive failure of the high dam that is located approximately a mile to the west of town.

occoquan-reservoir/occoquan-da m-siren. The dam sits upstream from Occoquan on the Occoquan River. It holds back water on the river to form a drinking water reservoir that serves 1.5 million people in Fairfax and Prince William counties. The reservoir produces more than 17 million gallons of water per day.

The artisan destination in Lorton says construction work to add these amenities has begun with two campus buildings, W13 and W15. Once completed, the Fairfax County Government will lease these buildings to commercial entities. Workhouse officials also say a brewery could be located in one of the new buildings.

Northbound Route 29 (Lee Highway) will have single-lane closures between White Post Road and Paddington Lane, weather permitting, this Halloween, from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday, Oct. 31, to implement a traffic shift, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation.
During that time, the northbound Route 29 lanes between White Post Road and Paddington Lane will be shifted to the right to allow work on the left side of the bridge over Cub Run. The lanes are expected to be shifted to the right until later this fall.

Crews working to build E-ZPass Express Lanes are preparing to close the ramps at Monument Drive and Stringfellow Road. As early as Monday, October 24, the ramps to I-66 East from Monument Drive and Stringfellow Road will close.
