Virginia State Police said someone opened fire on the Capital Beltway in Fairfax County, Virginia, on Sunday, March 19, 2023.
No one was injured. Police closed several lanes for a short time to collect bullet casings.

At 5:10 p.m. Sunday (March 19), Virginia State Police was notified of an individual in a sedan firing several shots at vehicles while traveling north on Interstate 495 near Exit 52 (Little River Turnpike) in Fairfax County. The sedan continued north on I-495.
One vehicle was struck. Fortunately, no one in the vehicle was injured.
The northbound travel lanes were temporarily closed so troopers could search for shell casings and any additional evidence related to this incident. Anyone who may have witnessed the shooting and/or have information related to this incident is encouraged to call the Virginia State Police at 703-803-0026 or by email at [email protected].
The Virginia State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation’s Fairfax Field Office is investigating the incident.
Gov. Glenn Youngkin (R) announced the first thirteen approved planning grants to develop innovative lab schools in Virginia.
A Lab School is a public, nonsectarian, nonreligious school established by a public institution of higher education, public higher education center, institute, authority or other eligible institution of higher education. A public hearing is scheduled Monday, February 27 in Woodbridge after Virginia officials voiced concern there may not be enough electricity to go around and power Northern Virginia's data centers under extreme conditions.
The state's Department of Environmental Quality will consider allowing data centers in Prince William, Fairfax, and Loudoun County (the world's epicenter for data centers) to use generators to feed the power-hungry server farms.
The meeting will take place in DEQ's Northern Virginia office, 13901 Crown Court, in Woodbridge (near BJs Wholesale Club) at 11 a.m.

The ramp from Interstate 66 west to Route 28 South will be closed Friday night, Feb. 24, 2023, from midnight to 4 a.m., for overhead bridge work.
Traffic will be detoured farther west to exit Route 29 (Lee Highway) Centreville, stay to the left and turn left at the traffic signal onto Route 29 North, and then follow signs to Route 28 South.

The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) reminds travelers that starting Monday, Dec. 5, vehicles will need three or more occupants to qualify as a High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) on I-66 in Northern Virginia. This change from HOV-2+ to HOV-3+ will apply across the entire I-66 corridor in Northern Virginia from Haymarket to the D.C. line.
On the newly-opened 22.5-miles of 66 Express Lanes, located outside the Beltway from Route 29 in Gainesville to I-495 (Capital Beltway), vehicles must have three or more occupants, and an E-ZPass Flex switched to the "HOV On" mode, to travel the lanes toll free. The 66 Express Lanes Outside the Beltway and HOV-3+ rule is in effect 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
On the existing nine miles of 66 Express Lanes, located inside the Beltway from I-495 to the D.C. line, vehicles must also have three or more occupants, and an E-ZPass Flex switched to the "HOV On" mode, to travel the lanes toll free. The 66 Express Lanes inside the Beltway and HOV-3+ rule is in effect on weekdays only during peak periods in peak commute directions.
