There's a new promise to build a Virginia Railway Express station at Potomac Shores near Dumfries.
Potomac District Supervisor Andrea Bailey says there is a new agreement between the Virginia Passenger Rail Authority and Biddle Real Estate Ventures, the neighborhood developer, to build the station.

Police said they’ve arrested a man for shooting a woman inside her home in Dumfries.
The 23-year-old woman was struck by gunfire when sitting inside her home on Fort Pulaski Court in Dumfries in May 2022. The woman suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
The man, charged as a juvenile, is suspected of shooting at two other homes in the area. He’s being held without bond.
Shooting Investigations *ARREST – On April 20, 2023, detectives charged a now 18-year-old man in connection to three separate shootings that were reported to have occurred in the Dumfries and Triangle areas of Prince William County in April and May of 2022.
The first shooting occurred on April 14 at a home on Fort Pulaski Ct in Dumfries (22026) where a 23-year-old woman was struck by rounds fired towards the residence. Later that morning, a second shooting was reported at a home on Kagera Dr in Dumfries (22025) after residents heard suspected gunfire and found their home was struck by rounds.
The third shooting occurred on May 9 at a home on Olde Port Ln. which also only resulted in property damage. While investigating these incidents, detectives identified and linked the suspect, who was a juvenile at the time, to all three previously reported shootings.
Following these investigations, detectives obtained juvenile petitions for the suspect due to his age at the time of the offenses. The accused was served on the charges while in custody on an unrelated matter. The investigation continues. OmniRide is proposing an overhaul of local routes in eastern Prince William County, including adding service to new destinations. The purpose is to create a streamlined, efficient, and more direct service.
New destinations and routes include areas that have been highly requested by passengers.
- New routing in Dumfries will include routing along Route 234/Dumfries Road, down to Waterway Dr.
- Dumfries residents will have access to medical offices along Fettler Park and access to the Target in Fortuna Plaza.
- Lake Ridge residents will have direct access to Potomac Mills and the NOVA campus with new routing along Minnieville Road between Tackett’s Mill and Caton Hill Road.
- Prince William Parkway between Route 1 and the Chinn Center will have dedicated routing.
OmniRide local routes will continue to serve all current service areas.
Flex routing that permits off-route trips will be discontinued and replaced with fixed-route service, which is a more direct and reliable point-to-point service. OmniRide will supplement fixed routes with OmniRide Access paratransit service for people with disabilities operating within three-quarters of a mile of the OmniRide Local bus routes.
OmniRide will hold public hearings and stage various listening events in the community to gain public feedback on the proposed changes. Arson, Attempted Murder*Arrest – On April 16, Fire Marshals charged a suspect in connection to the townhouse fire that occurred in the 3600 block of Dalhgreen Place (Dumfries) on November 26, 2022. The suspect is the stepbrother of the occupant who rented the basement portion of the home.
At the time of the fire, two (2) other occupants were upstairs in the home. Evidence from the scene and the suspect’s actions ultimately led to his identity in the incident. Following the investigation, Fire Marshals obtained arrest warrants for the suspect, identified as Nathanial Earl Payne, in connection with the incident. On April 18, the suspect was located and arrested without incident in Fairfax County by the US Marshals Fugitive Task Force.

Police said the general manager of the Potomac Shores Golf Club near Dumfries could have been using his phone to film women for months.
Unlawful Filming – On April 12 at 8:47PM, officers responded to the Potomac Shores
Golf Club located at 1750 Dunnington Pl. in Dumfries (22026) to investigate an unlawful
filming. The investigation revealed an employee located a phone actively recording in one
of the stalls inside the women’s restroom at the club. The employee notified a supervisor
who contacted the police. During the investigation, officers determined the phone
belonged to the club’s General Manager, identified as the accused, which had possibly
been recording on and off for the last several months. On April 13, the accused, identifiedas Craig Robert LUCKEY, was arrested. On April 17, following additional investigation into
the evidence located, a search warrant was executed at the home of the accused in Woodbridge and additional charges were obtained. Investigators are seeking to speak to anyone who has information regarding this investigation. The investigation continues.Arrested on April 13:

The National Park Service will begin improving wastewater systems at Prince William Forest Park’s campgrounds this summer.
The work will require periodic closures at Turkey Run Ridge Group Campground and Oak Ridge Campground and the extended closure of Cabin Camp 3. These improvements will ensure that Prince William Forest Park can continue to welcome visitors to these campgrounds into the future, providing a convenient and fun experience for all.
The work will cause the following campsite and cabin closures:
- Cabin Camp 3 individual and group cabins will remain closed through Aug. 2.
- Turkey Run Ridge Group Campground campsites and amphitheater will be closed from June 20 through Oct. 27.
- Oak Ridge Campground A Loop sites A1 – A24 and the A Loop restroom will be closed from Aug. 1 through Nov. 16.
These closure dates may change depending on the completion of the project and factors such as weather.
The Chopawamsic Backcountry Area, Oak Ridge Campground sites A25 – A42, B and C Loops, and Cabin Camps 1, 2, 4, and 5 will remain open to campers.
Nearly 295,000 people visited Prince William Forest Park in 2022. The park sits just off Joplin Road, at 18170 Park Entrance Road, in Triangle.
The park’s activities include camping, hiking, picnicking, and bicycling.
Two boys, one 15 and the other 17, face charges after a brazen armed robbery and abduction attempt on Route 1 at Wayside Drive, near a Walmart outside Dumfries.
Police found the suspects at nearby Potomac Mills mall in Woodbridge.

A Dumfries man who lives on Takeaway Lane is charged with indecent exposure after a Cracker Barrel employee said a customer exposed himself when receiving his takeout order.
Indecent Exposure – On April 7 at 10:23 AM, officers responded to Cracker Barrel, located at 17115 Dumfries Rd. in Dumfries (22025) to investigate an indecent exposure. The investigation revealed a patron, later identified as the accused, was parked in the parking lot when an employee went out to deliver his order. During the encounter, the accused exposed himself to the employee. At no time was there any physical contact between the victim and the accused? While investigating the incident, officers determined a similar incident occurred the month prior with another employee while delivering food to the accused. Following the investigation, officers obtained arrest warrants for the accused, identified as Brandon Michael JONES. On April 10, the accused turned himself into the police without incident.

Tangela Innis is the new Dumfries Town Manager.
She signed her employment contract on April 5, 2023. The town agreed to pay Innis a $180,000 annual salary, 34% higher than her predecessor Keith Rogers made when he took the job in 2019.
Innis comes to Dumfries from Petersburg, where she served as deputy city manager.
