On Saturday, February 1, 2024, Stafford County Public Schools hosted its highly anticipated Health and Wellness Fair at Colonial Forge High School, drawing hundreds of community members to participate in a day filled with activities, demonstrations, and fun.
The fair offered attendees a variety of informative experiences, including CPR and "Stop the Bleeding" demonstrations. Participants had the opportunity to engage in hands-on training, learning critical life-saving techniques. One popular demonstration involved a "Stop the Bleed" course, where attendees practiced applying pressure and gauze to a simulated wound, preparing them to respond effectively in an emergency situation.
Stafford County Public Schools (Stafford Schools) is pleased to announce the 14th annual Band Together to Fight Hunger, organized by Stafford Countyâs five high school marching bands, raised $27,593 and collected 3,778 pounds of food this year, equating to 58,333 meals for the Fredericksburg Regional Food Bank. The culminating event featured individual performances by each marching band from Brooke Point, Colonial Forge, Mountain View, North Stafford, and Stafford High Schools. Nearly 400 student musicians performed in a combined finale, led by North Stafford High School Assistant Principal Brandon Neal, showcasing unity and talent while supporting local families in need.
Contributions at a Glance:
Total Funds Raised: $27,593 (equivalent to 55,185 meals)
Food Collected: 3,778 pounds (equivalent to 3,148 meals)
Total Impact: 58,333 meals
Significant donations were made by businesses and community organizations, including Chick-fil-A, Manhattan Pizza, Outback Steakhouse, and the Student Organization for Change at the University of Mary Washington. Volunteers from Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Boy Scout Troop #2220, Girl Scout Troop #15, and other groups played a critical role in the eventâs success.
Community Support Drives Success
This yearâs contributions reflect the ongoing community need, as many families continue to face food insecurity due to rising costs and economic challenges. The Fredericksburg Regional Food Bank will distribute the donations to local pantries and feeding programs. Since its inception, Band Together to Fight Hunger has generated over 400,000 meals for local families.

At its November 12 meeting, the Stafford County School Board approved the launch of a new Business and Information Technology Center at Colonial Forge High School.
This center is designed to prepare students for high-demand careers in fields like cybersecurity, business administration, and data analytics. This center marks the latest in Staffordâs growing network of specialty programs to give students a head start in career-focused education and advanced fields of study.

Sheetz, 1175 Garrisonville Road, 11/4, 7:16 a.m. A customer came in to use the ATM, but got something unexpected in return. They located a fanny pack containing a firearm. Deputy Epps bit the bullet and seized the firearm for safekeeping until the owner could be located.
FRAUD:
Lendall Lane, 11/5, 5:19 p.m. Deputy R.L. Hubbard responded to a fraud. Someone in Florida would be gaining a Ninja mixer after fraudulently using the victimâs information.
LARCENY:
Colonial Forge High School, 550 Courthouse Road, 11/5, 11:00 a.m. Deputy G.M. Lum responded to a larceny report. A student advised his phone and AirPods were stolen the day prior from the boyâs locker room. The investigation is ongoing.
PUBLIC INTOXICATION:
Minuteman Circle, 11/4, 2:32 a.m. Deputy S.A. Edwards responded to a disturbance. The caller advised he was an âangry drunkâ and wanted to hurt someone. Deputy Edwards made contact with the caller and observed signs of intoxication. He was charged with public intoxication and held at Rappahannock Regional Jail until sober.
Travis Lane, 11/4, 9:25 p.m. Deputy J.J. Holetzky responded to an unknown problem. The caller advised there was a female sitting in the middle of the road. Deputy Holetzky located the suspect still sitting in the road as she displayed signs of intoxication. The suspect admitted to consuming multiple mixed drinks before arriving at this location. She was charged with public intoxication and held at Rappahannock Regional Jail until sober.
VANDALISM:
Whitsons Run, 11/4, 7:45 a.m. Deputy C.D. Sullivan responded to an unexpected paint job. The victim discovered her vehicle was spray painted red.
Stafford County Public School officials are reviewing the division's "Power Hour" lunch periods. High school students can walk around campus to have lunch with friends, study, meet teachers and guidance counselors, or attend workshops during these periods.
Superintendent Dr. Thomas Taylor said the power hour lunch was an idea introduced by students and allowed for the first time by the school division for the 2022-23 school year.
