I’ve come to a decision: Texting is tantamount to Satan ruling the Earth.
Here we are, modern Americans. Almost each and every one of us between the age of 12 and 14-years-old has a cell phone perpetually in our pockets, purses, backpacks or on our belts.
That’s probably a good thing, but…10 or 15 years ago some of you may have had a cell phone primarily for work, but did your kids have one? Could you or would you play games, watch movies or “text” on the things? No!
You’d call someone or they’d call you when you were away from your hard-wired telephone. You could speak with them and verbally communicate. All the audible coloration and emotions of the spoken word, could be heard by both people.
That, my dear reader, is called communications. Individual people speaking, listening and interpreting one another is communications.
Sure, it created a quandary when your cell rang while you were performing certain necessary, bodily functions—especially if you saw it was an important client on the line.
But remember, you could always call them back and explain that you had been busy.
Well, you had been!
Texting is not communication.
I’ll get into the true evil of this insidious social cancer and its impact on society next week.
Remember, this and what comes after it are my piece and I’m stickin’ to ‘em. If you disagree, please feel free to comment, below.
Stay tuned Mom and Dad –– next week’s piece will really tick off your kids!
David N. Britt covers the interesting, offbeat and entertaining happenings that you would write about if he wasn’t already doing it for you.
