Greetings, Prince William – Happy New Year!  Volunteer Prince William has re-activated its Twitter account to keep everyone informed on the latest volunteer opportunities and events in the greater Prince William community.  Please visit and Like/Follow us on our social media sites:  Facebook (Volunteer Prince William), Instagram (@pwvolunteer) and Twitter (@VolunteerPW) to get late-breaking information on volunteer opportunities and our programs.

The folks at ACTS Hunger Prevention Center have an urgent need for Donation Drivers Wednesdays thru Sundays.  Drivers can use an ACTS van or their own vehicle for food pickups.  There’s a variety of places to choose from, and you’ll feel great as you deliver food which will help food insecure families in our community!  Please contact Shirley at 703.441.8606, ext. 288 or [email protected] to learn more.

You can help fight hunger!  The Community Feeding Taskforce Food Helpline urgently needs Spanish speaking volunteers who can assist with answering calls to the Helpline on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.  Volunteers will answer calls from those in need of food, redirect callers to a food pantry closest to where they live and arrange home deliveries for shut-ins.  Training is provided; however, volunteers will work from home and must have their own computer and Internet access.  It’s a flexible schedule and call volume is low enough someone can do this while working from home.  Please visit https://bit.ly/314ZgDn for more information and click on the Respond button to sign up.

Mark your calendars!  The wonderful members of Delta Sigma Theta are holding their annual MLK Oratorical Competition virtually on January 17, 11:00am on their You Tube channel, PWCAC-DST-MEDIA.  It’s free, so sign on to watch middle and high school students speak on this year’s theme, “Beyond Dreams and Mountains:  Her Voice – Her Mission.”  Please visit  www.pwcacdst.org/mlk for more information, email [email protected] to learn more.

Delta Sigma Theta will also hold a MLK Day of Service on January 17 following the oratorical program, 2pm-4pm.  Members will accept donations of  new/gently used winter coats, blankets, sleeping bags, tarps, hats, gloves, socks, and non-perishable food to benefit clients of Streetlight Community Ministries Outreach.  Collection sites are Harris Teeter (Hastings Market Place) 10060 Market Circle, Manassas 20110 and Dumfries Commuter Lot, Route 234/Route 1, Dumfries 22026.  Please email [email protected] if you have any questions.

Do you enjoy coaching kids’ sports?  General Heiser Boys & Girls Club in Dumfries needs volunteer Volleyball and Basketball Coaches age 18+ for the upcoming spring season, early March thru mid-June.  Basketball teams run Kindergarten and through high school; volleyball teams run 3rd grade through high school.  Teams meet 2 evenings a week for practices and/or games; some Saturdays may also be needed.  You’ll feel great as you coach young sports enthusiasts and help them learn about teamwork!  Please visit https://bit.ly/32Buhzo for details and click on the Respond button to sign up.
