Looking for a new best friend? Meet Echo, a 3-4-month-old pup full of love, energy, and curiosity. This little guy, possibly a Boxer mix, is still finding his voice, but one thing is clear—he’s all about cuddles and playtime.

Important note: Echo is not neutered yet, so adoption location restrictions apply.

If Max doesn’t have the most adorable smile, we don’t know who does! This affectionate collie mix has been waiting months at the Spotsylvania Animal Shelter with minimal attention, which is surprising given his sweet personality. Max loves anyone who will give him affection—he’s a big fan of hugs and enjoys showing off his intelligence by responding to commands and walking well on a leash.
Max is best suited for leash walks and a home with a secure, adequate fence. In his previous home, he had a habit of escaping, likely due to a lack of stimulation. As a working breed, Max thrives when he has mental and physical exercise. Whether it’s puzzle toys, interactive games, or an active lifestyle, he needs engagement to stay happy.
Sadly, Max has been struggling in the shelter environment. The stress has taken a toll on his health, causing noticeable weight loss and a dulling of his once-shiny coat. While he previously lived with small dogs, he was protective of them, so he may do best as the only dog in his new home. He has not been tested with cats or children but may do well with older kids or teenagers.
If you’re looking for a loyal companion, Max could be the perfect fit for you. Visit him at the Spotsylvania Animal Shelter in Fredericksburg, VA. The shelter is open Tuesday through Saturday from 12–4 p.m. For more information, visit Spotsylvania Animal Control.

Say “Meowdy” to Little One, a gentle one-year-old feline who has been waiting patiently for her forever home at the Stafford County Animal Shelter for 229 days. Little One arrived at the shelter at just six months old after her previous owners had to move and could no longer keep her. While she was initially shy and reserved, she has blossomed into a sweet and playful companion with a little patience and the company of other cats.
Although Little One may play hard to get at first, she warms up beautifully with time and attention. She thrives in the company of other cats, making her an excellent choice for a home with feline friends. While her experience with dogs is unknown, the shelter believes she could adjust with proper introductions. Little One is spayed, microchipped, rabies vaccinated, and ready to find her forever family.

The Stafford County Animal Shelter is celebrating another heartwarming adoption story. Dax, a tri-colored Beagle, arrived at the shelter as a stray in September 2024. Despite his friendly demeanor and gentle nature, Dax spent 68 days waiting for someone to notice him. No one came forward to claim him, and potential adopters often passed him by.
Throughout his stay, shelter volunteers ensured Dax received plenty of care, exercise, and socialization. They took him on outdoor adventures and showered him with affection, but Dax’s longing for a forever home remained.
That changed when a family finally recognized Dax’s charm and decided to adopt him. His new owners report that Dax has fully embraced his new life, earning the title of “ultimate snuggle bug.” Whether it’s curling up on the couch or nestling under a pile of blankets, Dax has quickly become a cherished member of the family.
The Stafford County Animal Shelter is thrilled with Dax’s happy ending and hopes his story inspires others to consider adoption. “Seeing animals like Dax find loving homes is why we do what we do,” said shelter staff.
The shelter encourages anyone looking for a new pet to visit and meet their adoptable animals. They also invite previous adopters to share updates on their pets, highlighting the joy and companionship that adoption brings.
