Update
An 8-hour standoff in Stafford ended peacefully late Thursday with one man in custody.
Just before midnight, a 35-year-old man who had earlier said he “wished to end his life and threatened to shoot anyone who came to his property” in the 700 block of Courthouse Road (Va. 630) surrendered to sheriff’s deputies, said Stafford County Sheriff’s spokesman Bill Kennedy.
No one was injured. The man has not been charged and was taken to a local hospital for a mental evaluation.
Upon searching the single family home the man had been holed up in, investigators found several loaded weapons strategically placed inside the room the man was barricaded in, said Kennedy. Authorities said the man was distraught and appeared to be intoxicated.
Authorities were tipped off about the man at 4 p.m. Thursday by a third-party who called 911. It’s still unclear what relationship the caller had to the man, and if anyone else was inside the home during the standoff.
Residents who live nearby were told to stay inside their homes, and some were evacuated, said Kennedy.
The portion of Courthouse Road that had been closed, between Austin Ridge Drive and Ramoth Church Road, was reopened.

Sheriff’s authorities are now trying to talk with the man in hopes a standoff that began at 4 p.m. Thursday will come to an end.
Stafford County Sheriff’s spokesman Bill Kennedy said the unidentified man has threatened to harm himself or others, but he could not say if anyone else was believed to be inside the house.
Authorities have closed a significant portion of Courthouse Road (Va. 630) because of the incident, between Austin Ridge Drive and Ramoth Church Road.
“We’ve secured the area and have closed a portion of the road for safety,” said Kennedy.
The home in which the man is inside is in the 700 block of Courthouse Road, just south of Colonial Forge High School.
