Stafford County, Va. –– Marine Sgt. Kenny Lyons gave a limb for his country while serving in Iraq.

Now back home in Stafford County, some volunteers gave the wounded warrior a new home over the weekend.

The Homes for Our Troops organization spent the last several months raising money to build Lyons’ new home off Warrenton Road (U.S. 17). It was constructed in a weekend, and Lyon’s said he was honored to be the recipient of such a gift.

“I’m building the foundation for the rest of my life with this house,” said Lyons.

Kevin Hale volunteered his time to work with the framing of the home and on its kitchen cabinetry.

“It’s the least we could do…these service men do much for us,” said Hale.

Lyons lost his leg when a mortar exploded behind him. It ended his tour of duty in Iraq and his time in the Marine Corps.

After his honorable discharge from the service, Lyons moved to Maryland’s Eastern Shore. He later realized he wanted to live in Stafford County, he told PotomacLocal.com at a fundraiser for his new home last year.

Lyons served in the Marine Corps from 2003 until 2006.
