Stafford County, Va. –– The Easter Bunny’s visit to the Rowser Building in Stafford was only a warm up to this weekend’s bigger, annual extravaganza.
The Stafford County Parks and Recreation’s annual “Eggsplosion” event will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Curtis Park.
It’ll feature pony rides, a moon bounce and a non-competitive egg hunt.
“We decided to go with a non-competitive egg hunt because we would see parents literally drag their children across the grounds to find the eggs. We also split up the egg hunts into age groups so that way we’re not splitting parents up, where one would go hunt with their 3-year-old and another would go and hunt with a 2-year-old,” said Stafford parks spokeswoman Shelia Newton.
The annual spring festival began 25 years ago, and is for children under 5-years-old.
The Easter Bunny made a special stop for some even younger children last week and had lunch with about 48 preschoolers, parents and grandparents at the Rowser Building on U.S. 1 in Stafford.
At Lunch with the Easter Bunny, children shared pizza, carrots, applesauce and cupcakes with the candy icon of Easter.
“We always had a breakfast with Santa Claus so we decided we would have the Easter Bunny come visit us as well,” said Newton.
To attend the Eggsplosion event this Saturday, the parks department will charge $7 per child in advance and $9 per child at the gate. Parents get into the event free, and the price includes admission to all of the attractions.
