Update 10:30 a.m.
A 45-year-old man was pulled from the rubble that fire officials say was his home Monday.
An explosion rocked 19117 Wayne Drive at 8:15 a.m., blowing the roof off of the home and sending debris into neighbors’ homes and onto cars.
Officials say the cause of the explosion was gas, and that the man who became trapped inside suffered burns and trauma to his upper body and was flown to Washington Hospital Center. His injures appeared to be non-life threatening, officials say.
The home was under construction, but officials learned the victim had an appointment scheduled with the home inspector later today. New tenants that were going to move into the new home was there as recently as last night moving boxes, said Prince William fire and rescue spokesman Brett Bowman.
Police were quick to close adjacent Fuller Heights Road following the explosion, but reopened it about 10 a.m.
Neighbors remain in awe at the sight of the single family home now in shambles.
