The Fredericksburg Regional Chamber of Commerce will host the 6th annual First Responders Appreciation Breakfast on August 24 from 8 to 10:30 a.m. at the Fredericksburg Expo Center, 2371 Carl D. Silver Parkway in Fredericksburg.

The business community comes together to honor and thank our region's outstanding first responders for their outstanding contributions to our safety and well-being. Awards will be presented in the following categories: Heroism (Gold, Silver or Bronze Awards; Meritorious Civilian Award); Investigative (Excellence in Criminal Investigation Award; Merit Award; The Business of First Responding Award); and the Citizen Valor Award.

The Tuesday night game between the FredNats and Salem Red Sox was suspended in the bottom of the 5th inning due to inclement weather.

The two teams will finish the game in its entirety tomorrow, with the first pitch scheduled today at 5:05 p.m. and then will play a seven-inning game 30 minutes after the conclusion of game one. Salem leads 5-0 in the 5th inning.

The Fredericksburg Nationals staged an improbable comeback to sweep the three-game series vs. the Shorebirds Sunday. The FredNats scored seven times in the 8th and 9th to turn an 8-3 deficit into a 10-8 win.

JT Arruda led the way offensively, exploding for four RBIs, including one in the ninth to put the FredNats ahead 9-8. Arruda teed off for his second homer of the summer in the third, tying the contest at 3-3 before a 5-run fourth put the Shorebirds in front.

The Churches United Inaugural Convention will be held from Wednesday, July 27 to Friday, July 29, at the Harvest Life Church in Woodbridge. Upward of 60 signs at intersections along U.S. 1 naming the road Jefferson Davis Highway will be changed in the coming months to rename the road Richmond Highway in Prince William County.

Members of the Prince William Board of County Supervisors, other dignitaries, and county residents recently gathered in the parking lot at River Oaks Shopping Center for a renaming ceremony.

Northern Virginia Conservation Trust has helped the Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation acquire a 59-acre property of high-priority forested wetlands adjacent to the Crow's Nest Natural Area Preserve in Stafford County.

The acquisition of this tract protects the habitat for bald eagles, great blue herons, at least 25 species of waterfowl, several rare plant populations, and neo-tropical migratory birds.
