Following their annual performance review of the Superintendent, on June 12, 2022, the Prince William County School Board voted to approve a one-year extension of Prince William County Public Schools (PWCS) Superintendent Dr. LaTanya D. McDade's four-year contract, with a revised contract end date of June 30, 2026.

"The contract extension unanimously approved by the School Board is an affirmation of the exceptional leadership of Dr. McDade. Following a tumultuous period in PWCS she has brought clarity, vision, and a steadfast focus on improving teaching and learning," said Prince William County School Board Chairman At-Large Dr. Babur Lateef. "Public education is at an inflection point in history, the pandemic has left its mark on our students' learning and wellbeing. Dr. McDade is the right person, at the right time, to ensure our students, teachers, employees, families, and community accelerate our work together to achieve the educational outcomes that every child deserves."

James Wood enjoyed a stellar FredNats debut on Friday night, going 4-for-6 with a home run, three RBI and a stolen base. The FredNats fell in 10 innings by a final of 10-9 to the Wood Ducks.

Wood, who joined the team after the Washington Nationals acquired him in the Juan Soto trade, was a star. He started in center field and drove home the team's first run with a single in the third before launching his 11th overall home run this season in the 5th. The Rockville, MD native had 10 home runs with the California League's Elsinore Storm (San Diego Padres A affiliate) before joining the Nationals organization.

The FredNats pulled out a 4-3 win in ten innings to begin the six-game series vs. Down East Tuesday. Geraldi Diaz and Yoander Rivero notched go-ahead RBIs in the 10th to power the dramatic win.

Andry Lara got the start for the FredNats and dazzled, allowing a first inning run before firing five straight scoreless. The stretch included an incredible three-pitch inning in the fifth. He outdueled Mitch Bratt, who went five innings as the Wood Ducks starter and allowed two unearned runs when an errant relay throw allowed Diaz and Andry Arias to score the only two Fredericksburg runs in regularly-scheduled play.

Lottery contestants lined up inside a Wawa gas station in North Stafford to purchase tickets from an automated lottery ticket vending machine on July 29, 2022.

During the 29 drawings of the jackpot run that began in April and ended with Friday night's $1 billion drawing, sales of Mega Millions tickets in Virginia generated an estimated $30.2 million in profit. By law, all of that profit goes to K-12 public education in the Commonwealth.

While the overall winning ticket was not sold in Virginia, in Friday night's drawing alone, more than 405,000 Mega Millions tickets bought in Virginia won prizes. That includes four tickets that matched four of the first five numbers plus the Mega Ball number. Normally that wins $10,000, however, one of those players spent an extra dollar for the Megaplier when they bought the ticket. The Megaplier doubled that prize to $20,000.
