Jared McKenzie homered in his FredNat debut, James Wood had four more hits across two games, and the FredNats split tonight's doubleheader with Augusta, winning 8-2 in game one and losing 8-7 in game two.
Branden Boissiere had the 8th and final RBI for the FredNats in the middle innings. Fredericksburg got a strong start from Jose Atencio, who earned his second win with the team after pitching five shutout innings with no walks and seven strikeouts. Augusta pushed across a couple runs late for the 8-2 final. Jacob Young reached four times in the game and scored his 90th run of the season, second in professional baseball to only Aaron Judge of the New York Yankees.

Trey Lipscomb made a big splash in his FredNat debut, smacking a three-run home run off the left field foul pole, Will Frizzell went deep twice, but it was Augusta with a 13-11 road win in a wild, back-and-forth series opener at Virginia Credit Union Stadium.
The GreenJackets wasted no time getting to the sticks as Stephen Paolini hit a leadoff homer off Bryan Caceres, the first of four runs in the 1st inning for Augusta. Justin Janas and E.J. Exposito also drove in runs in the frame for Augusta, and both were making their GreenJacket debuts after being drafted in 2022.

On Saturday, August 6 at 4:22 p.m., officers responded to Dolphin Beach located at 15904 Dolphin Drive in Montclair to investigate a missing swimmer.
The investigation revealed the victim, a 38-year-old man, and two acquaintances, were swimming at the beach when he attempted to climb the dock's ladder and suddenly went under the water.

Civil Air Patrol Cadet Col. Daniel C. Hince of Prince William Composite Squadron was presented the Gen. Carl A. Spaatz Award certificate on Saturday, August 6, 2022, at the Virginia Wing Headquarters located at Chesterfield County Airport.
Brig. Gen. Bryan E. Salmon, Air National Guard Assistant to the Commander, 15th Air Force, Shaw Air Force Base, S.C., was the presiding official for this special event. Brig. Gen. Salmon also serves as the Assistant Adjutant General for Air Strategic Initiatives for the Virginia National Guard. Hince earned his Spaatz Award, number #2415, on July 24th, 2022.
Parents Dan and Teri Hince, grandparents Britt and Therese Hayes, Hince's four siblings, extended family, and several CAP members celebrated Hince's cadet, academic, and athletic achievements. Hince will be a freshman this Fall at Longwood University in Farmville, studying history and international relations as a member of the 2026 class.

The FredNats were within three outs of taking the six-game series at Grainger Stadium in Kinston, but the Down East Wood Ducks rallied for two runs in the bottom of the 9th on a pinch-hit, walk-off two-run home run by Abimelec Ortiz to spoil the Sunday for the FredNats.
Two out of Down East's three wins in the series were walk-offs. Prior to this series, Fredericksburg had not been walked off this season.
Andry Lara pitched well for the second time in the series as the starter for Fredericksburg. The top-10 Nationals prospect went 5 1/3 innings and did not allow an earned run with six strikeouts. Two unearned runs scored on Lara, and the FredNats had three total errors in the game.

Lucas Mendes of the Fredericksburg Fire arena soccer team has been named to the USA567 national team roster for its upcoming exhibition game against the Mexican National Futbol Rapido Team.
The international arena soccer exhibition game will take place on Saturday, August 13, at Idaho Central Arena in Boise, Idaho. This will be the fourth meeting between the teams in Idaho since 2019.

Cort Smith of SmithWorx Office Furniture and David Fraser of Fraser Wood Elements met at a Chamber event early this year. As they began discussing their businesses with each other, they realized they had an overlap in their business models and similar mottos in Business; customer service and attention to detail. A few weeks after meeting, Smith presented Fraser and his team with a custom conference table project, and Fraser jumped at the opportunity to help Smith and the SmithWorx team.

Jackson Rutledge, Bryan Pena, and Cody Greenhill combined for the 6th FredNats shutout of the year Saturday at Grainger Stadium. The shutout effort, plus a two-RBI night from Steven Williams, earned the FredNats a 3-0 win and a 3-2 series edge.
Rutledge used 90 pitches in five innings to limit the Down East offense to just four hits. He struck out six while allowing just one walk. He has now gone 13 innings in his last two starts, striking out 13 and allowing just one run.
