Last weekend, a homeless outreach group in Dale City hosted a âSpring Flingâ event in order to provide services and supplies to the areaâs population.
Hosted at the PRTC Commuter lot, the event was meant to serve as a kick-off for the Dale City Civic Associationâs Homeless Outreach groupâs spring and summer services.
According to Luci Cahill, an organizer for the group, their winter outreach is mostly helping the homeless individuals survive the winter in harsh conditions â but the spring and summer are a time to provide them with more services.
âIt was a major event for the homeless outreach. We had [the Greater Prince William Community Health Center] to sign people up, we had the League of Women Voters to sign people up â other organizations came out with supplies,â said Cahill.
Cahill stated that this event allows them to assess the needs of the homeless people living in the tent camps around the county, to see what medical and housing needs they have. Read More

This morning the Prince William Chamber of Commerce hosted their annual Legislative Wrap-Up breakfast in Woodbridge.
The breakfast was an opportunity for members of the chamber, business owners and elected officials to interact with one another and speak about issues that impact residents in Prince William and Manassas.
Each year, the chamber issues a legislative report card to each of the countyâs elected officials, giving them a grade of A to F â based on their voting record in Richmond, and how well it aligns with the chamberâs business platforms.
During the program, two longtime incumbents â Senator Chuck Colgan and Senator Toddy Puller â were both commended for their service to the state. Both will be retiring this year. Read More
An animal control officer for the Stafford County Sheriffâs office had a unique rescue experience this week on Driftwood Lane in Stafford.
Animal Control Officer Anthony McCall was dispatched to a home in the Widewater district, to investigate reports that an American bald eagle was seen on a pier.
According to McCallâs report, he arrived on scene and met with the caller, who showed him the area where he saw the eagle, saying that it had swum out to a tree.
McCall continued along the bank near the Potomac River, before sighting the eagle â which ran back into the water while he pursued it.
The officer was able to help catch the eagle, and bring it back away from the bank.
Bringing it back to the home of the caller, the officer was able to show them the eagle.
âThe [callerâs] small child wanted to name the eagle âSteveâ and I advised them that the eagle would be taken by the Game Warden and taken to a rehabilitator,â said McCall in a report.
McCall then put the eagle in the custody of the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries, where it will receive medical care.

The cost for a government employee booking a hotel in Prince William County may be changing, as organizations fight to raise the rates.
When a government employee travels, they book a room using a âper diemâ rate â a rate set by the General Services Administration (GSA), that is different from the rate any other traveler would pay.
Using a formula, the GSA looks at these rates each year, and despite Prince William Countyâs proximity to Washington, D.C. the current per diem rate for the county is far lower than other localities.
