A new storage facility will be built near the Southgate neighborhood in Falmouth.
Ruther Glen-based company Little Falls Run applied to the county to build a one-story Lock It Up storage facility on about 8 acres at Cambridge Street (Route 1) and Southgate Avenue. The facility will sit between the Southbridge residential area and the Walt Lou Mobile Home Park.
Little Falls Run applied for a conditional use permit due to their plans to add a parking lot for moving vehicles that can be rented from the facility. The new building will also include a 2,800 square-foot, two-story home for a caretaker who will live on the grounds. The company currently manages storage facilities in Stafford and other localities.

John and Cindy Grove, owners of Lupine Grove Inc., are seeking a special exemption to run the kennel from their home at 26 Quarter Horse Court located in the Equestrian Estates subdivision off Route 610 in western Stafford. According to an application, the homeowners wish to use their 13- acre property to breed, train, show, and sell dogs to prospective customers.

In response to an upswing of anti-Semitic events in Virginia, Gov. Glenn Youngkin announced his intention to form a council to combat the issue.
Youngkin will form the Commission to Combat Anti-Semitism. His administration is seeking applicants to join this council.
According to Rabbi Lizz Goldstein of Congregation Ner Shalom in Woodbridge, the governor's new commission is sorely needed in the state. Anti-Semitic incidents are rising across the state, evidenced by the discovery of a swastika painted on an overpass on Prince William Parkway on February 2.

Fredericksburg honored 27 students who couldn't attend their graduation ceremony because of the Jim Crow south.
In 1950, 27 students from Walker-Grant High School could not attend their graduation ceremony held at the Dorothy Hart Community Center, at 408 Canal Street in Downtown Fredericksburg.
Later, the city relented, saying they could attend their graduation but only if they promised not to use the front door while coming and going.

A proposed budget presented to the Manassas City Public School Board would focus on adding new teachers, new school construction, and funding programs to help disadvantaged students and English Language Learning students.
Superintendent of Schools Dr. Kevin Newman presented the proposed budget to the School Board on February 8. The total amount that the proposed budget is asking for for Fiscal Year 2022-2023 in order to meet the system's needs and requests is $121.5 million.
The Manassas budget would rely on the proposed budget made by former Governor Ralph Northam before his exit last month. Before taking office, current Gov. Glenn Youngkin said he wanted to pass Virginia's most significant education budget.

A hawk was found to be stranded on the HOV lanes on Interstate 95 and had to be rescued by Stafford County Sheriff's Office Animal Control Division.
At 12:09 p.m. Sunday, January 23, Deputy Edward Brooks responded to a call about a large bird in distress on the roadway at mile marker 146. The bird turned out to be a hawk, an animal typically dealt with by animal control unless it's sick or injured.
The caller said that an owl was potentially wounded and disoriented. Sheriff's office reported the animal was likely struck by a car.

A road in Stafford County long plagued by flooding will be fixed, officials say.
The Stafford County Infrastructure Committee, made up of elected Board of Supervisors members, is formalizing a solution to solve the problem of extreme flooding happening on Brooke Road/Route 608. The road runs alongside the Accokeek Creek, which overruns its banks during heavy rains. It overpowers the culverts resulting in flooding the street.
In November 2020, a plan was presented to the county board of supervisors to elevate the re-align the road to keep it from flooding. The section of Brooke between Raven Road and Maplewood Drive would be the focus of the rebuild.

The Patawomeck Tribe needs help to replace the roof of the Duff Green House which has begun to leak.
The tribe is looking to Stafford County to help them with the cost of replacing the slate roof of the historical house. The tribe is unable to afford the cost which an assessment made by their insurance provider estimated to be $60,000, an amount that the tribe cannot afford.
