Stafford County Economic Development: "Process Over Prize Academy, a dynamic and innovative martial arts academy, is thrilled to announce its grand opening in Stafford with an official ribbon-cutting ceremony that was held on Saturday, July 8, 2023, at the business storefront located at 11 Hope Road, Suite 207 Stafford."

“We are thrilled to bring Process Over Prize Academy to the Stafford community,” said Martin Thomas, Owner and visionary behind the academy. “Our goal is to create a positive and inclusive space where individuals can develop their skills, enhance their fitness, and gain the confidence to overcome challenges both on and off the mats. We believe that Jiu-jitsu has the power to transform lives, and we are excited to embark on this journey with our students.”

"The opening event celebrated martial arts with community participation allowing meet and greets with Process Over Prize Academy instructors, trial classes suitable for all ages, and engaging interactive activities showcasing the art of Jiu-jitsu. Exclusive promotions and connection opportunities were shared with attendees and fellow martial arts enthusiasts. "

George Washington Regional Commission: "During its meeting on June 26, 2023, the George Washington Regional Commission elected officers for Fiscal Year 2023-2024, which began July 1."

By unanimous approval, the officers elected were:

  • Chair – The Honorable Darell English – Stafford County Board of Supervisors
  • 1st Vice Chair – The Honorable Chris Yakabouski – Spotsylvania County Board of Supervisors
  • 2nd Vice Chair- The Honorable Cathy Binder – King George County Board of Supervisors
  • Treasurer- The Honorable Jeff Black – Caroline County Board of Supervisors
  • Secretary- The Honorable Jason Graham – City of Fredericksburg City Council
"The George Washington Regional Commission, since 1972, is responsible for encouraging and facilitating local government cooperation in addressing, on a regional basis, problems of greater than local significance, and provides a broad array of services for the benefit of the 372,000 residents of Planning District 16. " "PD 16 is the fourth-largest and fastest-growing of the Commonwealth’s 21 planning districts. The GWRC’s current areas of focus include economic development, environmental services, human services (including homeless services support), affordable housing, transportation demand management, and rural and urban transportation planning." "Strategies to meet these needs are included in the GWRC 2022-2027 Strategic Plan found at gwregion.org " "The GWRC Commission meets at 6 p.m at 406 Princess Anne Street in Fredericksburg each month except December and July. Meetings are open to the public allowing brief citizen comments on regional issues."

Northern Virginia Electric Cooperative: “Northern Virginia Electric Cooperative (NOVEC) awarded $1,500 scholarships to 14 area high school seniors in May. An independent panel of judges evaluated applicants on their academic records, community involvement, work experience, demonstrated leadership, recommendations, and essays.”

“Judges also recognized Alexis Francis, of Prince William County, as the most outstanding student among the group of recipients. She received an additional $1,500 as the winner of the J. Manley Garber Scholarship, named for the late NOVEC Board of Directors chairman. Francis plans to attend Bridgewater College in Bridgewater, Virginia.”

Prince William Parks and Recreation: “Thanks to a grant from The Cecil & Irene Hylton Foundation via the Prince William Parks Foundation, more than 800 students from Title I schools in Prince William County were awarded scholarships to participate in the Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism’s Science in the Park program last spring.”

“Science in the Park provides hands-on science lessons for K-6th grade students based on the Virginia Standards of Learning Science curriculum, utilizing the resources of Prince William County’s beautiful parks as an outdoor classroom.”

“Participating students visit one of the Science in the Park locations where teachers can choose from a variety of customized lessons that help support what they’re teaching in the classroom, such as habitat trail hikes, creek studies, and learning about water health.”

Stafford Public Schools: "Stafford County Public Schools was among 24 school divisions awarded a $125,000 Career and Technical Education (CTE) Skilled Trades Grant from the Virginia Department of Education. The one-time funds will be used to implement a plumbing and HVAC program at Stafford High School."

“We are thrilled to be recognized as a leader in CTE programming, and thank VDOE and 2022 General Assembly for their commitment to ensuring every child is prepared for life after high school,” said Stafford Schools Superintendent Dr. Thomas W. Taylor. “We are appreciative of this grant, which allows us to expand programming that provides robust, real-world, meaningful classroom experiences for every student.”

Helix Helping Hands: “Helix Helping Hands is proud to announce our 4th Annual Blood Drive on Wednesday, July 12, from 8 am-2 pm at our Manassas office. This event is part of our ongoing mission to give back to the community.”

Young Marines: “The Young Marines National Foundation (YMNF) donated $81,000 to the Young Marines, a national youth organization, to support the 2023 National Leadership Academy (NLA), which takes place July 8 – 16, 2023, in San Pedro, Calif.”

“Lt. Col Mike Zeliff USMC (Ret.), the executive director of the Young Marines National Foundation, presented the check on Tuesday, June 20, to Col William P. Davis USMC (Ret), national executive director and CEO of the Young Marines.”

“This is only the first of many monetary contributions that the foundation hopes to present to the Young Marines to enhance opportunities for its youth members,” said Michael B. Kessler, chair of the board of directors of the Young Marines National Foundation.”

Young Marines is based in Dumfries and has several units across the U.S.
