FREDERICKSBURG -- Folklore tells of a spectral being that returns to Chatham Manor in Fredericksburg once every seven years to search for her lost love.

Robin Nimmo of Fredericksburg Hauntings Tours tells her story, as well as many other spooky stories, as she guides visitors on a 90-minute walking tour of haunted Downtown Fredericksburg.

STAFFORD-- On October 2, Kyle Bates from the Virginia Department of Transportation updated the Stafford County Board of Supervisors on the highlights of current VDOT construction projects in the county.

Questions and concerns from the Board of Supervisors

Mark Dudenhefer, Garrisonville District, expressed his concern for the lack of funding to improve county roads that are greatly impacted by when crews must portion of Interstate 95 for traffic crashes and construction projects.

STAFFORD -- During the Stafford Board of Supervisors’ meeting on October 2,  the county’s director of public works Jason Towery updated the board on all the ongoing construction projects in the county.

Fire Station 14

Towery told the board that Fire Station 14 is still projected to be complete in Spring of 2019. There have been some delays due to weather. Some of the masonry work is coming up now.

STAFFORD -- There’s more water in Stafford than officials first thought.

The county's planning and zoning director Jeff Harvey, Director told the board of Supervisors the county could support the construction of 6,500 new wells. Homes in the county draw from the Piedmont Aquifer, and last year county officials were concerned that aquifer was on the brink of running dry.

The county’s comprehensive plan currently 200 new homes being built per year outside urban services area, where new homes will rely on well water and not be connected to county water and sewer.

STAFFORD -- Stafford County Tourism is sponsoring a three-race series between September and December.

Runners wanting to participate can still sign up for the Halloween 5K and Monster Mile on October 27 and the Frosty 5K and Reindeer Run on December 15.

The first in the series, Cannon Run, was a four-mile race that took place on September 9.

STAFFORD-- Residents and Stafford officials are looking at new ways to bring broadband internet to underserved rural areas of the county. 

The Marlborough Point, Hartwood, and Widewater areas of Stafford County have few options for broadband Internet and unreliable cell phone service, according to Stafford Aquia District Supervisor Cindy Shelton.

A wireless broadband company from neighboring King George County aims to change that.

STAFFORD-- Brooke Road in Stafford has flooded five times in 2018.

Rising water has caused damage to the road and is a safety hazard for local residents.

Brooke Road is built on low-lying terrain between the intersection of Andrew Chapel Road and its endpoint at Aquia Landing. This area of Brooke Road parallels Accokeek Creek and is located in a Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) mapped floodplain,” said Virginia Department of Transportation spokeswoman Kelly Hannon.

OCCOQUAN-- Bann Thai Old Town opened its doors on September 9 in the Occoquan. This new Thai restaurant offers dine-in, carry-out, catering, and delivery for a five-mile radius from the restaurant.

This is owner Nalinrat Pienthumdee’s first restaurant. She partnered with a very experienced chef to bring authentic Thai food to Northern Virginia. Chef Tang has over ten years of experience as a chef.

“Every dish he prepares he wants people to have a great experience about the food,” Pienthumdee said about Chef Tang.

CENTREVILLE -- Despite its location in bustling Northern Virginia, the largest remaining working farms in the area will stay that way.

On Sunday, September 9, politicians and conservationists gathered at The Winery at Bull Run to celebrate a recent achievement in preserving history, nature, and business.

The Northern Virginia Conservation Trust and the winery worked together to create a 90-acre conservation easement on the property in Fairfax County. The winery and farm sit near the Manassas National Battlefield in neighboring Prince William County.
