Jacqueline J. Basala
Jacqueline (Jackie) J. Basala, 82, of Lorton, VA, passed away on March 15th, 2017 in Lorton, VA after a short battle with breast cancer.
Jackie was born in Baraboo, Wisconsin to Arthur & Dorothy Godkey on February 18th, 1935 weighing just 2 ½ pounds. She moved to Washington DC in 1940. She went to school at H.D. Cooke Elementary, Powell Jr. High, Langley Jr. High, and McKinley Technology High School in Washington, DC. She also attended the University of Maryland. She married John M. Basala on June, 3, 1956 in Silver Spring, MD. She was first and foremost a MOM raising 5 children; she was an avid Redskin Fan, working at RFK as an usher for many years. She saw the games and many concerts and got paid while doing so. She also co-owned John the Buggy Man, a VW business, with her husband and kept the business going after his death in 1981 and still ran it up until her death. Jackie loved people, going to bingo, playing slots, playing rummy, doing her word searches, her animals, and mostly her family and friends.
Jackie is preceded in death by her parents Arthur and Dorothy in 1973 and 1987 respectively, her husband John in 1981 and her son Justin in 2001. Jackie is survived by three sons, John Basala of Lorton, VA, Jim Basala and wife Karen of Nokesville, VA, Joe Basala and wife Shelly of Locust Grove, VA, and daughter Judy Martin and husband Vernon of Manassas, VA., a brother Don Godkey and wife Donna of Zellwood, FL., eleven grandchildren, Jennifer Thompson, James Basala, Jr. and fiancé Shawn, Katelynn Basala, Justina Basala, Jeffrey Martin and fiancé Vera, Michael Basala, Matthew Basala, Lauren Basala, Samantha Martin, Joey Basala Jr., and Bailee Basala and three great-grandchildren, Allison Thompson, Gavin Thompson, and Morgan Basala, and her best friend since grade school Nancy A. Alicea.
Visitation will be from 2:00pm-4:00pm Sunday, March 19th, 2017 at Mountcastle Funeral Home, 4143 Dale Blvd. Woodbridge, VA. Funeral services will be held at 11:00AM, with a short visitation at 10:00am Monday, March 20th, 2017 at Mountcastle Funeral Home, 4143 Dale Blvd. Woodbridge, VA, with Pastor Rusty Coram of New Hope Church, officiating. Burial will follow at National Memorial Park in Falls Church, VA.
Memorials may be given to American Cancer Society. The family of Jackie Basala wishes to extend our sincere thanks to all of her friends and family that have supported and prayed for her.
