Over the coming weeks, the Prince William Republican Committee is conducting a back-to-school supply drive to benefit the County’s neediest students, and the Committee Chairman invites the community to join the service project.
Any Prince William County resident can participate in the Committee’s Community Service Initiative no matter what their political affiliation is. This community service project is part of a year-long Community Service Initiative that has become a focus for Prince William Republicans.
Participants are being asked to purchase school supplies for needy students and drop them off at the Prince William Republican Committee headquarters located at 4431 Prince William Parkway, Woodbridge, VA 22191-5301 Monday, Wednesday, or Friday between the hours of 12:00 pm and 6:00 pm or bring the supplies to the Committee’s next monthly meeting on Monday, August 24, 2014 at Benton Middle School.
The Office of Gainesville Supervisor Pete Candland (7001 Heritage Village Plaza, Suite 210, Gainesville, VA) will serve as a drop-off location for western Prince William County on weekdays between 10:00 am and 4:00 pm.
Last year, the Committee collected 9 large boxes of school supplies and delivered them to two Title I schools in the County. The most needed items include backpacks, pens, no. 2 pencils, water-based markers, glue sticks, three-ring binders, pocket folders, and loose-leaf notebook paper.
“Education is a top priority for us, and this community service project gives us the opportunity to put our words into action,” said GOP Chairman Bill Card. “Unfortunately, we have many neighbors who are going through rough times, and we’re glad to help families send their kids back to school with the supplies they need to succeed. We invite the community to join this service project, so we can work together to support our County’s education system.”
Prince William Republicans kicked off this year’s Community Service Initiative in March with a fashion show and luncheon to benefit the B.A.R.N Transitional Housing charity in Bristow.
The Bull Run Republican Women’s Club led the effort to raise money and collect clothes for women being served at the charity. Republicans have also conducted food bank drives and clean-up projects across the County this year.
In June, Supervisor Candland, Occoquan Supervisor Mike May, and Brentsville Supervisor Jeanine Lawson led a 13-hour 36.5 mile “Walk For Prince William” across the County that raised 20,000 pounds of food and supply donations for County charities.
In 2014, the Committee Initiative included ten service projects, including food bank collections, events to support veterans, and an August school supply drive, among many others. For more information about the Committee, go to www.pwcgop.org.

Delegate Ian Lovejoy (R-22, Prince William County) presented HB1984, which would have required local government approval for data center developments only if they were located at least a quarter mile away from such properties. The subcommittee voted 8-0 to “lay the bill on the table,” effectively killing it.
The vote dealt a setback to those advocating for tighter regulation of Virginia’s rapidly growing data center industry. Data centers, which house servers and infrastructure critical for cloud computing and internet services, have been a source of contention due to their noise, construction impacts, and potential encroachment on residential and community spaces.

On January 24, 2025, the Virginia House of Delegates Cities, Counties, and Towns Committee reviewed several critical bills advanced. A charter amendment for the Town of Dumfries was unanimous, while a proposal to protect unhoused individuals seeking shelter in vehicles was rejected.
Delegate Candi Mundon King (D-Stafford, Woodbridge) introduced House Bill 2352, which proposes significant updates to the charter of Dumfries in Prince William County. The bill seeks to modernize the town’s governance structure and clarify its administrative framework. After receiving an 8–0 recommendation from the subcommittee, the committee voted 19–0 to report the bill to the full House of Delegates.
The Spotsylvania County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a double homicide following the discovery of two deceased individuals in a Heatherwood Drive residence about two miles from Courtland High School.

On Saturday, January 25, 2025, at 10:30 a.m., deputies responded to a call from a concerned individual who reported not having heard from a friend.
