Stafford sheriff’s office announces National Stop on Red Week

The Stafford County Sheriff’s Office is reporting that August 2 – 9 is National Stop on Red Week.  The Sheriff’s Office, along with communities and law enforcement agencies across the nation will be raising awareness about the dangers of red-light running.

In 2013, 697 people were killed and an estimated 127,000 were injured in crashes that involved red light running.  The Stafford County Sheriff’s Office will have additional deputies on the road helping to enforce red light laws and reminding motorists that running red lights is a potentially fatal driving practice.

“The Sheriff’s Office is committed to doing everything possible to protect the children and adults who are on our roadways,” states Major David Decatur.  “The dangerous behavior of red-light running is a senseless behavior that can cause so many serious problems.”
