Prince William Republicans continue community initiative at ACTS homeless shelter

ACTS Shelter PWC GOPThe Prince William County Republican Committee continued their 2015 Community Service Initiative with a service project at ACTS Homeless Shelter in Dumfries on Wednesday. The group served a meal for dinner for the residents of the shelter. Prince William School Board At-Large candidate Tim Singstock led the group, which also included Dumfries Mayor Jerry Foreman and Delegate Rich Anderson (VA-51).

Prince William Republicans kicked off this year’s Community Service Initiative in March with a fashion show and luncheon to benefit the B.A.R.N Transitional Housing charity in Bristow. The Bull Run Republican Women’s Club led the effort to raise money and collect clothes for women being served at the charity. Republicans have also conducted food bank drives and clean-up projects across the County this year. In June, Gainesville Supervisor Pete Candland, Occoquan Supervisor Mike May, and Brentsville Supervisor Jeanine Lawson led a 13-hour 36.5 mile “Walk For Prince William” across the County that raised 20,000 pounds of food and supply donations for County charities.

“It’s important to us that the Prince William GOP do more than just elections and campaigns,” said Prince William Republican Chairman Bill Card. “We want to also serve those in our community who are in need in a more direct way. As some of our neighbors seek to become self-sufficient, Prince William Republicans want to help by providing some support.”

In 2014, the Committee Initiative included ten service projects, including food bank collections, events to support veterans, and an August school supply drive, among many others. Any Prince William County resident can participate in the Committee’s Community Service Initiative no matter what their political affiliation is.

Last year, the Committee collected 9 large boxes of school supplies and delivered them to two Title I schools in the County. Prince William Republicans will again be doing a back-to-school school supply drive service project this year during the month of August to benefit some of the County’s neediest students. Interested participants can drop off school supplies at the Committee office at 4431 Prince William Parkway in Woodbridge on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, or bring the supplies to the regular Committee meetings. For more information, call the Committee office at 703-680-7388.
