Opinion
State Senator Colgan’s record of selfless leadership on behalf of the people of our district is impressive and should be considered a great display of public service. Now, for the first time in over 30 years, we have a decision to make: who will the Democrats nominate to attempt to fill the impressive shoes of Chuck Colgan in our district?
I’ve heard all the arguments such as: “We need someone to take on a deep pocketed Republican in the fall,” and “we need someone who is the ‘most electable,’” and, “We need someone to win this seat so we have a Democratic majority in the Senate.”
The only person to carry the torch for the Democratic Party in tomorrow’s election and represent us in Richmond is Atif Qarni. I know Atif very well, and he has all of the key characteristics it takes to be a strong, faithful leader for our district.
He’s a strong family man, a committed father, and a man who believes in fighting for what he thinks is right. That’s why he joined the Marines and fought to protect the country. He’s a public school teacher who is committed to providing the best future for our kids, and to supporting local businesses. He’s a compassionate father who will continue to fight for our kids and grandkids to have the same opportunities we had.
I know this because I know Atif and his family. He has an incredible work ethic and the enthusiasm to get things done. As a Marine and an Educator, he has the varied experiences needed to work both as a team player and a fighter for our shared values.
There is a great deal at stake for the future of our district and our state. We need someone with the integrity and character to represent us, and be a REAL leader in Richmond. So join me in supporting Atif Qarni in the Democratic primary on June 9th, and in this November’s general election.
