The Manassas City police have issued a reminder that residents are not allowed to use Lake Manassas, as it is not open to the public.
Lake Manassas is a 770-acre body of water near Gainesville and it is the primary source of the city’s drinking water, said a Manassas police release.
While the lake was previously monitored and open for public use, the city decided to close off access to the lake in 2004.
According to a police release, the closure occurred due to concerns about homeland security and several invasive species that had come into the area. Additionally, the lake has remained closed because of the inability to monitor the safety of residents using the area, said Manassas city police.
Due to the warmer weather, which may draw more residents out onto the property, the Manassas City police will be conducting extra patrols on the grounds and on the water.
