Keep Prince William Beautiful host litter cleanup event on Apr. 18

Keep Prince William Beautiful (KPWB) will be completing our Annual Route 1 Clean-Sweep, sponsored by CSX, on April 18, 2015 between 9 am-12 pm. Volunteers are encouraged from all over the county and surrounding areas to donate their time and efforts to our mission. As there is no shortage of litter, we have room for everyone who has the time or passion to assist our cause.

No experience is required and no amount of time and effort will be turned away. This is a great opportunity to perform some community service, or simply the perfect juncture for your local youth group or community organization to spend a morning giving back to our environment. The day will begin with litter and safety education and training, followed by the community clean-up, encompassing overlooked and under-attended stretches of the Route 1 corridor. Food and refreshments will be provided as well as volunteer site-guides, equipment and supplies. This will be a productive and inspiring day that we strongly encourage everyone to take part in.

During last year’s Clean-Sweep we removed over 1,000 pounds of trash over nine miles of Prince William, with the help of over 140 volunteers. This year, our goal is to crush last year’s numbers; we truly cannot do it without you!

For more information, please contact our event organizer Damir Grljevic at (571)285-3772 or email [email protected]. Information is also available on the KPWB website at kpwb.org/calendar/kpwb-annual- route-1-clean-sweep-sponsored- by-csx/

Deuntay Diggs, Chair of Stafford County’s Board of Supervisors, indicated Tuesday evening that he is prepared to take legal action should some of his colleagues continue to ask for an amendment to the Code of Performance that “adversely affects my career, my calling,” reports the FXBG Advance.

A report from the Federal Railroad Administration requested by Fredericksburg City Council and Mayor Kerry Devine on this past summer’s freight car derailment blames human error for the mishap, reports the FXBG Advance.

The Stafford County Board of Supervisors is progressing toward finalizing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the Economic Development Authority (EDA) and the Department of Economic Development.

The draft MOU aims to clarify the roles and responsibilities of both entities in promoting economic growth and business attraction within the county. However, concerns raised by some Board members suggest that the document may need further refinement before it can be adopted.

During a work session on January 28, 2025, Liz Barber, the county’s Director of Economic Development, presented the draft MOU, highlighting the extensive process that led to its creation. The document was developed over the past year, with input from both county administration and EDA members. Its goal is to establish clear guidelines and expectations for the EDA and the Department of Economic Development, particularly regarding the administrative processes, division of duties, and collaboration between the two bodies.
