Woodbridge, Va. –– How does a three-course meal for twenty bucks sound?
For some area teachers, it sounded like a good deal and a great way to connect business owners and educators.
A special luncheon was held at Uno’s Chicago Pizzeria and Grill in Woodbridge on Monday to benefit Prince William County’s educational outreach organization, REACH.
The group was able to raise $1,000 to support the group’s efforts. Twenty people showed up at Uno’s in Woodridge, and about 80 people combined came to Unos locations near Manassas and in Gainesville.
“We came up with the idea of doing these lunches and holding them on teacher workdays, about four times per year. This way, when deemed OK by the superintendent, teachers can take a longer lunch on these days –– about an hour and a half, up from 30 minutes –– and be able to eat out while supporting education,” said event organizer and SPARK Executive Director Sharon Henry.
The money raised will go to pay for maintaining websites for each individual school, as well as formulating partnerships with outside businesses who may be interested in showcasing what they do to students in the classroom.
Those who dined Monday enjoyed soup or salad, their choice of pizza, an entrée salad or sandwich and desert. And of course, drink refills were free.
