Dr. Alfredo “Fred/Edong” Duque Po of Woodbridge, VA., was born on October 27, 1932 in Manila, Philippines to the late Miguel U. Po and Gregoria Duque. He was the fourth child out of 12 children. Fred attended Torres High School where he met and fell in love with his high school sweetheart and love of his life, Sylvia Ventura. After high school, Fred pursued and graduated from medical school at the University of Santo Tomas. He married his sweetheart Sylvia.
They’ve been happily married for 55 wonderful years on April 8, 2014, and have been blessed with 6 children, 12 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
Fred, together with Sylvia and then 6-month old daughter Marcelina left Philippines for Wheeling, West Virginia, U.S.A., to further his medical studies with an internship in neuro-surgery at the Wheeling Hospital. He was a medical resident there for 5 years before he, his wife and 3 kids moved back and settled in Manila, Philippines where they were blessed with three more kids.
During his lifetime, Fred was a school doctor at the Emilio Jacinto Elementary School, a company doctor for his wife’s family-owned private business, Ventura Steel Windows & Doors Co., Inc., a public health doctor at the Manila City Hall, a medical consultant for various hospitals in Manila like Martinez Memorial Hospital, St. Luke’s Hospital, Santos Medical Hospital, San Lazaro Hospital and Mary Johnston Hospital, and a private practitioner who ran his own medical clinic. Fred was a beloved doctor in Manila, a very compassionate and humble person who helped many indigent patients by providing free clinic and other charitable medical practices. He was a doctor who was available 24- 7, responding to emergency house calls even in the wee hours of the night.
He also served as Chief Commanding Medical Officer for the Nigerian Army for 8 years. He retired from medical practice, and then he, his wife and their family migrated back to Virginia, U.S.A. He was an avid fan of Washington Redskins, who also enjoyed travelling, gardening, , singing, dancing and spending time with family, relatives, and friends. He enjoyed taking care of his grandkids and great-grandkids.
Fred joined our Creator and Lord God on July 10, 2014. He is survived by his loving wife Sylvia Ventura Po, and their daughter, Marcelina “Poochie/Marcy” (Eric) Marc; son Joseph “Jay Jay” Po; daughter Rosan “Bambi” (Robert “Bob”) Michael; daughter Maria Caridad “Maricar” (Rodolfo”Rudy”) Nacianceno; daughter Mary Ann “Meann” (John “Bing”)Romero; and son Emmanuel “Eman /Manny” (Cathy) Po. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Eric Marc, Johanna, Melissa (Kevin), Melinda (Edwin), Robert, Jr., Morgan Marlene, Frederic, R.J., Stephen, Kristine, Angelo, Brandon, and Gabriel, and his great-grandchildren: Jashua, Melody, and Matthew.
Fred is also survived by his sisters Emiliana P. Datoc, Elvira P. Mallari and Virgen P. David, and brothers Leonardo Po, Miguel Poingue, Antonio Poingue, Jesus Poingue, and their spouses, children and grandchildren.

The Prince William County Board of County Supervisors will address the county’s meals tax during the upcoming budget deliberations, according to Chair At-Large Deshundra Jefferson. The meals tax, enacted in 2022, has been a concern for local restaurant owners, some of whom are advocating for its repeal.
The proposed meal tax (also called the food and beverage tax) for Prince William County in FY2025 is projected to generate $42 million in revenue. This represents a $10 million increase from the previous year, reflecting a significant rise of 31.25%.
The tax has drawn strong reactions from the restaurant industry, where owners have repeatedly called for its abolition, arguing that it places additional strain on their already tight margins. Restaurant owners have pointed to the increased costs they’ve faced over the past few years, compounded by inflation and staffing shortages, making the meals tax particularly burdensome.
